7/6: Submitted AMCAS. It's alot of schools, but hopefully it won't be overwhelming.
7/20: AMCAS just verified my application. Wow, alot of secondaries just appeared.
8/14: Secondaries keep on rolling in. I've been finished all the relatively simple ones immediately (simple essay/no essay) and trying to work through my more complex secondaries sequentially.
8/24: First Interview Invite! I'm going to Tufts on 9/20! Almost all of my secondaries are done. I just got Stanford's the other day. I also was just rejected from BU. I'm still waiting on Emory for their secondary.
9/2: Just got an interview for Pitt on 10/17.
9/14: Got an interview from Vandy (well I got the invite a bit ago, but I had to finish the secondary first, now I finished it). I'll be going there on 10/25. I also got the secondary from Emory today. It's about time, they're the only secondary I have left (asides from Case, I delayed on it for too long, I don't think there is any point in filling it out at this point).
9/20: I was favorably impressed by Tufts. The facilities seemed fairly modern and I absolutely love Boston. I wouldn't mind going there. The biggest turnoff was my one interviewer who asked me some rather unusual (and crazy) questions. For example, 'What is life?' (I'm not making that up), 'What is happiness?'. And there were a few more, though nothing on that level.
9/23: That was fast. Got an interview at Emory. They had me scheduled for 10/17, but that would be hard seeing as I'm going to Pitt that day. I rescheduled it for 10/19.
10/9: Got an interview from the Medical College of Wisconsin. That is scheduled for 11/2. That should be a bit easier (seeing as I live in Milwaukee).
10/15: Got an interview from the University of Wisconsin for 11/9. At least my interviews are sort of spaced out. I have 2 this upcoming week and then 1 a week for three weeks.
10/18: I had my interview at Pittsburgh yesterday. I was very impressed with the school, the WISER center and the number of clinical facilities within a short distance of the medical school were absolutely astounding. I only had two beefs with the University of Pittsburgh. One, it's in Pittsburgh. Two, the medical school itself seemed a bit dated. The other facilites seemed modern and very impressive, but the medical school, specifically the lecture hall, seemed grungy. I am now off to Atlanta for Emory. This will be my first time staying with a student.
10/20: I liked Emory alot. While the day was very long, it was informative and actually sort of fun. The admissions staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The med school building is brand new and is gorgeous. Grady is a bit rundown, but it's size and client population provides other opportunities.
10/23: I just received an interview from Washington University in St. Louis, I'm quite excited. I called up St Louis University to try and finagle an interview at the same time as WashU out of them and found out that I also have an interview from them. So I moved things around and am now going to the two schools back to back.
10/28: Vanderbilt was nice. I think I still like Emory a bit more, but it was still a good school. The day was a bit more unstructured than my other interviews and there was alot of downtime. My interviewer actually asked me questions (as opposed to just having a conversation ala Emory/Pittsburgh), but she was nice and I think the interview went pretty well. Hopefully my impression turns out to be the truth.
11/2: The Medical College of Wisconsin was actually a surprise. I had three interviewers (I got an extra one) and the first interviewer grilled me for 40 minutes (10 minutes overtime). He definitely did not have a positive impression of me. The other two interviews went better though.
11/9: The University of Wisconsin went much better than MCW. The interview was much more laidback and I seemed to click better with my faculty interviewer.
11/12: I was rejected by the Medical College of Wisconsin. While disappointing, this isn't that surprising considering my impression of the interviewer.
11/15: I interviewed at both WashU and SLU over the last two days. I was pleasantly surprised by SLU. I had heard negative things about it but I liked the atmosphere alot more than I had expected. My only concerns about it are its facilities (which pale in the unfortunate comparison to Washington University).
Washington University was incredible. Barnes-Jewish was the most impressive hospital I have seen yet and the medical school itself matched Emory and Wisconsin in terms of niceness. This interview was a tad more stressful than SLU, but both were pretty laidback. I really hope I get into to WashU.
In addition, I just found out that I've been waitlisted by Pittsburgh. I'm a bit disappointed, but I'm glad that it isn't an outright rejection. I called their Admissions Office for stats regarding the waitlist but no-dice there. Let's hope.
12/1: My first acceptance! I just got the letter from the University of Wisconsin. I'm going to medical school next year!
12/26: Another interview comes after a prolonged interview drought! I just looked in my mail and an invite from the University of Virginia was sitting there. They have me scheduled for 2/4/08, but I'll be out of town then (cousin's wedding in India), so I will try to reschedule it.
1/14: Just when I wasn't expecting anything new, I received an interview from Baylor!
2/4: I've gotten an interview at Case Western and the Cleveland Clinic. Kind of surprising seeing as I forgot to click the stupid application complete button until the middle of December (I had finished everything else back in early november). But I've been waitlisted at Vanderbilt, kind of disappointing.
2/13: I interviewed at Baylor last week and my Cleveland Clinic/Case Western interviews are next week. I actually really, really liked Baylor. Enough so that I'm going to write them a letter of intent. As of right now, this is my ranking order for schools (that I still have a chance at):
1. Baylor
2. WashU
3. Vandy
4. UPitt/UW-Madison
Case Western and Cleveland Clinic probably belong on that list somewhere as well.
2/23:
I just interviewed at the Cleveland Clinic this last Thursday and Case Western Friday. Let me say this, I liked the curricula for both programs, but they are not for everyone. Cleveland Clinic is entirely Case-Based Learning (aka PBL) and has no lectures nor does it have any type of objective grading. They have portfolio grading (very subjective) and they don't rank for the match. Case Western is slightly more traditional, but they still have about a 50/50 mix of PBL and lectures. If you want lectures, these are not your schools. But, seeing as I don't like lectures, this would be good for me. Now back to the waiting game.
P.S. Seeing as I haven't heard ANYTHING for a vast number of schools (and seeing as it is late February) I'm assuming that I'm rejected from them.
3/13: I'm very tired of waiting for schools to finish me off. I'm waiting on 5 schools right now (the one's I've interviewed at and have yet to hear a response from). Frankly, I think it likely that I'm going to be waitlisted/rejected from most/all of those schools. This may be a case of me lowering my expectations before getting good news or this could be simple realism when you take into account that pretty much all the schools I interviewed at are rolling/semi-rolling schools. But I did get good news today. UW-Madison just gave me a 10k/year scholarship if I so choose to attend! Someone loves me after all!
3/14: Just got waitlisted at Washington University in St Louis. My earlier fears were realized. I hope I get in.
3/19: I just got waitlisted at Emory. I'm withdrawing from them, Vanderbilt, and Pittsburgh.
3/20: Another waitlist. This time from Case Western. I'm withdrawing.
4/18: I'm waitlisted at Baylor. I even sent a letter of intent. I'm quite sad. Well, I'm sticking on the waitlists at Baylor and WashU. So I'll be waiting a while longer.
