Summary of Application Experience
I put this profile up to encourage all those coming from unusual/non-traditional backgrounds and those who did not attend ivy league schools but would love to go to a world-class MD/PhD program. If you are older, use it to your advantage! Maturity helps enormously when interviewing. Be yourself, relax, and learn from the interviews. You will meet the most amazing people and learn from the best scientists. I had a blast in mine.
Also, apply early. I finished all my secondaries from 8/15 until 9/13, and starting hearing from schools in early october. I had my first interview at UTSW on Oct 13-14, and the rest pretty much every week after that. However, don't make my mistakes. I applied to WAAAYY too many schools because I was not sure how strong of a candidate I was (I did not know how good my letters were). During my first interview, one of my interviewers hinted that they were very very good, so when I came back I decided to withdraw from some schools and only interview at schools in the northeast where I could see myself going.
