    Summary of Application Experience

I currently live in Wichita, KS but want to return to California for medical school - luckily I still hold residency there! I am strongly interested in public health and wish to pursue the combined MD/MPH degree and will only be applying to schools that offer such.

8/12/06 - Phew!! Almost done with that SLOUGH of secondaries! I did this to myself, but still, that was a lot of mini-essays to write. And a lot of checks to write, too. Hopefully it'll all pay off...

8/16/06 - Waiting waiting waiting...All secondaries (for every school!) are going to be finished today. Waiting on a few extra things, like hard-letter copies for UCSF and UCLA from my advisor, a LOR for public health combined degree for OHSU and Temple, and filling out the graduate degree application for Temple (I have to pay another fee and everything, what an unfortunate system for double-degree students). I am excited to have all this done by the start-up of school and just sit back and relax for awhile.

8/19/06 - Still sitting on UCLA and UCSD. Can't bring myself to write 2-page autobiography of my meaningful journey towards Doctor-dom. Am becoming increasingly frustrated with Temple's MD/MPH application process...this doesn't bode well for their program once I get there if it's this confusing and difficult just to apply.

8/20/06 - Finished UCSD. Sent that sucker in. UCLA is on the block for tomorrow.

8/28/06 - Jefferson email! Got me an interview!

9/1/06 - NYMC interview! I scheduled it for the day before Jefferson so I can go to NYC and visit my friends and family there the weekend before, interview at NYMC on Tuesday, take the train to Philly, interview at Jefferson, then head back to Wichita. Worked out great so I get a nice Fall Break vacation and get interviews done at the same time, without missing more than 1 class. Awesome.

9/1/06 - Double-invite day! Tufts came...I scheduled on Oct 13 so now my East Coast Tour (hereafter referred to as 'ECT') will include Boston -> New York -> Philly.

9/7/06 - Just got back from Pittsburgh. Loved it. Interview went really well, I have really high hopes for PittMed...also got a UCSD invite to interview!

9/26/06 - Invite to Mayo. I had no idea how the phone interview went so this was a lovely surprise. I am so so so so so excited!!!!

9/28/06 - Got the UCD and UCSF interview invite emails about 3 minutes apart from each other! How great is that? So now I'm doing a West Coast tour in November...

9/29/06 - KU interview invite..at least I don't have to fly to do this one!

10/3/06 - USC interview invite. I'm saving this one for January when I won't miss school to go.

10/4/06 - UCLA. I will hopefully be able to schedule it back to back with USC so I only have to go to LA once. I'm beginning to wonder how many more interviews I can actually do! This is wonderful and all, but I wasn't expecting this and the $$$ is starting to add up, as is the stress of travel. I guess it's worth it?

10/19/06 - I got accepted to Pittsburgh on Tuesday so I'm withdrawing from all the schools I don't really want to go to anyway. I'm leaving my other top choices open still (UCSF, UCD, UCSD, Mayo). I'm tired of interviewing already (did 4!) and I'm tired of traveling. I'm excited to have an acceptance so I can just sit back and be picky now.

10/24/06 - I just got back from Mayo. Holy cow. Let's all cross our fingers.

11/1/06 - Well, I'm 3/4 on acceptances after interview. I got into Tufts today, and Jefferson last week...I'm just waiting on Mayo. Please Mayo, please.

11/20/06 - I have finally finished all my interviews. Now it's just the waiting game. WAAAAIIIIITING!!!!!

1/16/07 - Wiled away the holidays still waiting to hear from UCSF, UCD, and Mayo. Got an interview invite to Oregon, so scheduled that one for late-february in case my other west-coast options don't pan out. Plus it's a good school, and portland is awesome. I am going crazy. Maybe will hear from UCSF this week?!

1/21/07 - I am getting so tired of waiting. I just wish I knew where I was going so I could start planning the move.

2/27/07 - I was accepted to UCDavis today!!!!!!!! This makes me so excited because I was getting really down about the no Cali love...and now I get to move back home and be with my family and friends and eat lots of produce. I am perfectly happy today.
