6/8/06 Last application was late (late August submission), took the late MCAT (August), did poorly on MCAT, and applied to top tier schools. Trying to be smarter this time. Submitted application without MCAT scores on 6/6/06. Hoping to score around 30 (practice scores ranged from 28-33). Needless to say, I hate standardized tests.
6/19/06 MCAT scores released... went from 25T to 31R... THANK GOD!
6/21/06 Added a few schools since I now have an updated MCAT score: UAB, George Wash, Georgetown, Boston, Tufts, Saint Louis, Case, and Penn State. I know I probably don't have a shot at all of these, but gotta put myself out there I guess. I'm going to withdraw from NE Ohio and Indiana after further consideration.
6/24/06 First secondary received
6/28/06 Submitting secondaries as fast as I can without compromising quality. The more extensive apps will have to wait a little while... except UF, gotta show love to the state schools
7/17/06 Can't get that last letter of recommendation in :(... 15 secondaries submitted, no letters (worthless effort so far)
7/20/06 Submitted Letters of Recommendation (2 Science Ugrad, 1 Non-science Ugrad (from last time :(... ), 1 Graduate Faculty, and a physician)... had to leave the wounded i guess
7/29/06 Last letter submitted to Interfolio... good to go...
8/9/06 Almost done with secondaries
8/10/06 First good news... well, kinda... Mayo Phone Interview scheduled 8/29 (guess this is technically just a secondary, but it feels good)
8/15/06 All secondaries received...
8/21/06 First interview invite! University of Vermont
8/29/06 Mayo Clinic Phone Interview 4:30 pm EST... think it went well, kinda stressful for me though :( Couldn't come up with the greatest examples
9/9/06 Rejected by Mayo (expected, still stings, and would have liked to see campus)
9/15/06 Interview at University of Miami: Very good clinical exposure, perhaps not enough emphasis on doing well on USMLE Step 1? Many medical students said that the school is interested in training good physicians and people, and not on teaching toward the test. I agree with this approach... so we'll see...
9/20/06 Interview at SUNY Buffalo: Very impressed with the school and faculty. The Associate Dean seemed very enthusiastic and excited about the school. The school was top notch in my opinion, had clinical exposure from day one, good standardized patient facility, completely wireless, PDA required, broad array of clinical experiences due to lack of teaching hospital. Did not get to meet enough students though.
9/21/06 Interview at University of Vermont (UVM): For anyone who wants to know what UVM stands for, it's like 'Universitus Verdes Montanas' or something in Latin, basically means University of Green Mountains I guess. And apparently is why Vermont is called Vermont (Ver = Green; Mont = Mountains). Anyway, brand new facilities, nice connection to Fletcher Allen, a Level 1 Trauma Center, beautiful campus, high technology, telemedicine capable, free (well, you know what I mean) laptops, PDAs, and a very good curriculum emphasizing patient contact.
10/16/2006 Accepted at 3 schools! UF, Miami, and USF... I might be done with the process, will consider schools as they may or may not offer interviews. Applied to waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many schools... oh well, I was scared since I am a reapp
