    Summary of Application Experience

5/14/06: Since tomorrow is May 15th and my process is officially over, I guess I'll close my profile! Got confirmation of all my withdrawals last week or so, and I'm 100%, officially, completely a member of the UCSF class of 2010. Rock.

4/28/06: Sent withdrawal letters to WashU and Baylor today. Also sent an email to UTSW to confirm my withdrawal, but they haven't responded. Oh, and I got a little departmental scholarship, which was really nice. I'll use it to buy my stethoscope and otoscope :)

4/23/06: I'M GOING TO UCSF!!!!!!!!!!! By the end of second look I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else. I just let myself fall in love with it once I realized that ALL the things I want in a medical school are exemplary at UCSF. So excited. I'll withdraw from WashU and Baylor this week (naturally feeling a little guilty for no real reason).

4/11/06: Forgot to mention earlier that I sent a snail mail withdrawal letter to UTSW last night. Today I got an email from them saying that I got a scholarship! IRONY. I wouldn't go there because I can't see myself being happy there but still. I was speechless.

4/11/06: WashU second look was a blast, and I still love them. I'm really freaking out about deciding between UCSF and WashU. All financial aid stuff is done, thank God. UCSF second look is in about 2 weeks, and I'm excited, but also a little anxious since I've put a lot of pressure on myself: I have been saying that after I go to both second looks, my decision will be easier. So hopefully that's true. Realistically, I'll probably love UCSF just as much as WashU and still be stuck.

4/01/06: Well, no scholarships from WashU, and I HIGHLY doubt there's any chance for a scholarship at UCSF. Now it's looking like UCSF might actually be cheaper if I can establish CA residence at any time during the 4 years. And (and I know rankings don't matter, but still) UCSF and WashU are now tied for 4th in the US News rankings. Oh, the irony. So I'm really pretty freaked out about this decision. My parents still haven't filed taxes (dad working in Wisconsin makes it a lot harder to do) but I went ahead and submitted my estimate FAFSA to WashU, and hopefully I'll get a finaid package from both schools sooner than later. Man oh man.

3/19/06: Woah. I just got accepted to UCSF, which I honestly was not expecting. This is the only school that I like as much as WashU, so now I'm stuck in a pretty tough decision. Awesome, but damn.

2/25/06: Well, UTSW emailed me making sure I was going to turn in my papers, so I ended up holding my spot there after all. Still waiting: UCSF, WashU scholarships.

2/21/06: Missed the deadline to hold my spot at UTSW, but it's ok because I would choose Baylor (where I AM holding my spot) over UTSW anyways. Hopefully someone deserving gets in off the waitlist now. Still waiting on the WashU scholarships, and I'm getting pretty nervous. Also still waiting to hear from UCSF.

2/9/06: Withdrew from most schools a few days ago, since I wouldn't go to any of them when everything is said and done. (Hopkins, off the low alternate list; Cornell, Columbia, NYU, Sinai, Emory).

2/1/06: Matched at Southwestern, the only other option I would consider in TX. Things are good.

1/24/06: Dean from Baylor called with an acceptance. It's good to know that if I do end up staying close to home for some unforseeable reason that I'll have the best option available :) Also, I'm in the process of applying for two different full-tuition scholarships at WashU. Fingers crossed.

1/12/06: So there were a few interviews, including UCSF today which I LOVED. I liked Columbia but I'm not sure if I would be happy there. Also Baylor, which I liked more than I expected I would but I'm still shying away from the idea of ending up so close to home (weather is horrible, Houston kinda sucks, etc.) But the best thing that happened today is that I got a phone call from Dean Dodson at WashU and I'm in! This is great since not only is WashU my top choice, but the only previous feedback I'd had at all was my Hopkins rejection. That's certainly not what I wanted to hear first from any school (rejection in general sucks if it's all you've heard) but I guess it's fine because I don't think I would have chosen them over WashU or UCSF if it had come down to it. I am definitely much happier with a WashU acceptance and JHU rejection than the other way around! At this point I'm not holding out much hope for interviews from Cornell/NYU/Sinai, and I'm realizing that the time an acceptance from Emory has probably already come and gone. Oh well, I'm happy :)

10/13/05: Getting overwhelmed with the amount of school I'm missing. Also, the conflicts in scheduling are becoming pretty difficult to work around: my job doesn't allow substitute teachers even for a med school interview, and all the interviews I've been getting lately have either been scheduled during another itnerview, a day of work, or a test (or two tests). UTSA finally replied with an invite but of course it's on a day I have to work and my bosses are not being very cooperative. Grr.

10/03/05: Ok it's been way too long since I actually wrote anything on here so here's what's been going on. Interviewed at UT Southwestern (good, not super great), UTMB (not too impressed, one interviewer was a dick and I didn't feel like they really cared whether or not we liked it), and Emory (love, love, LOVED it and I would be ecstatic to end up there). Upcoming interviews are UT-Houston on 10/12, JHU on 10/21 (it's my birthday so hopefully that will bring me luck), Baylor (they scheduled me for 10/21 but I already had Hopkins lined up, no way I'm cancelling that one so I'm waiting for a reschedule date from Baylor), and WashU (just got this one so I haven't had time to schedule it). Still waiting to hear from the NY schools and I JUST got the secondary from UCSF. Not sure if I meet their bio requirement (funny enough since I'm a bio major) but can't hurt to send in the secondary. If I really like them I can always take a stupid freshman bio lab post-graduation to fill that req. Oh, and I'm officially approved to graduate from UT on December 11th provided I can pass all my classes. Love how graduation is before finals . . . of course you would do that, UT.

08/11/05: Completed secondaries for Emory, Cornell, and Mt. Sinai.

08/08/05: Received secondary from Mt. Sinai and invitations for the secondaries for WashU and Baylor, both of which I have already done. Emory promises their secondary is 'coming soon!' UT Southwestern has received my TMDSAS and Hopkins has received my secondary stuff. 3rd LOR is still not in.

08/03/05: AMCAS verified. Last LOR still not in to the Health Professions Office. Blah.

07/29/05: AMCAS/TMDSAS submitted last week. I have done all the secondaries that didn't require an invitation so now I just have to wait for my AMCAS to be verified. Also, since I couldn't squeeze out a decent personal statement until after India, still waiting on the LOR from the professor who wouldn't write one until she was happy with my statement. Although Tulane didn't send in a transcript to TMDSAS the first time it was requested, it arrived there today; also, my signature form/huge check/pictures got to TMDSAS on Wednesday.
