Summary of Application Experience
I tried to be early, but unexpected family death delayed that a bit. Still early, but not uber-early...since my stats leave something left to be desired.
6/9 UCLA Transcripts received by AMCAS--love my alma mater 6/20 Finally Community college sends in transcript for ONE philosophy class taken in HS. Grrgh 7/10 Finally application complete at AMCAS!!! It starts.....
Emails start arriving from lots of schools because 20 of my 34 are automatic invites...still..it feels good to do something
8/13 Called EVMS to check status and was told to expect invite!!! SO EXCITED!!!! now, they just have to send the actual email.
8/24 I am complete at most of my schools, except the rest of the screened ones, but getting nervous because of no invites though deep down I know it is still very early--gahhhh......I am usually a chill person but this process me hace loca!
8/30 Called Loyola to check my status and they told me that I am on pre-int hold...*sigh*...i guess it's better than a flat out rejection. Trying to wean myself off of obsessive email checking and certain forums *ahem*
9/1 Realized that I did not want to do research, and that Stanford would just toss my application in the waste basket...I will save them the trouble and withdraw
9/5 So I have been trying to have a Zen outlook on my interview invites, and was able to check my email without teetering on anxiety. So I had to send out some data to a coordinator at work, and lo and behold...logged on and received the NYMC invite...i was ecstatic...and ran to tell all the nurses, and call everyone i knew (excessive i know) and second surprise was Drexel's about 3 hours later...when it rains...it pours ^_^
9/10 GW rocks! I just received an interview invite from them. This is great. I am so lucky.
9/14 With the good comes the bad, today I checked my status for Irvine and was 'denied' interview....wahhhhh...*cries in a corner*.. this one hurts.
10/4 Wow, I just got a secondary from Davis....I know this is not even close to an interview, but hell I thought after 2 and a half months of silence....it actually came....talk about unexpected surprises.
10/14 How cool is it to get an interview invite WHILE on doing interviews?! Totally awesome. Wow, this really makes me think i have a real shot at getting in this year...yay!
10/19 Things just keep getting better. SUNY downstate decided to give me a shot, and it's just awesome. I really didn't think I would have 5 interviews by mid october....i am so thankful though.
10/27 I got the VCU infamous 'You are in the pool of people we want to interview' hold message on 10/25. Secretly, I hoped it would be like some other SDNers who got that message and got invites a couple of days later, lo and behold....it came today, a saturday...anyways, I am excited! I've heard it's a great school. yay!
11/9 I almost cried when the nice lady from Drexel faxed my letter to me at work. Those were the most nerve wracking 15 minutes I have ever experienced. I'm GONNA BE A DOCTOR!!! wow, all those years of hard work finally paid off. Such a heavy burden lifted off my shoulders.....for all you out there who are not 3.8 and 36 MCAT applicants...don't give up hope. And don't let other people psych you out, if you want it badly enough and you plan well....you will be rewarded.
6/18 Dreams do come true, people. VCU was my first choice, and now they have finally offered me a spot. Richmond, here I come!!
