    Summary of Application Experience

Applying to MD/PhD programs in the History of Science, Technology and Medicine

    Updates:
4/27/08 - Revisits just finished up. I got that 'gut feeling' at Penn and have decided to matriculate. Yes, it's not LA and the beach but I couldn't be happier with how this year went!
3/27/08 - And then there were three... Time for revisits.
3/13/08 - Having a hard time with the PhD portion. It's going to come down to UCLA, Penn and Wisconsin I think.
2/29/08 - After a very stressful couple of weeks I finally got my first acceptance!!! I'm in shock, complete shock.
2/10/08 - I WON THE GATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cambridge here I come!
2/3/08 - Gates interview coming up at the end of the week. Also now a finalist for the Oxford Fulbright! Just got back from Penn too. Very impressive program! Really tired from interviewing and excited to almost be done.
12/14/07 - Gates interview :-) Yay!! I'm so excited. I definitely have a lot to do over break now though. This process is so long. Part of me can't wait until it's over and the other part is scared out of my mind about acceptances and how I am supposed to make a decision. I have withdrawn from some schools because of time constraints but I don't yet have an acceptance. Most of my schools are non-rolling so I guess I just have to have faith until march.
12/11/07 - HARVARD invite!!!! Decided to withdraw from some places because I have too many interviews.
12/8/07 - Haven't updated in a while. Interviewed for but did not receive the Rhodes :-(. Accepted to Cambridge 12/3 for an M. Phil in the history of medicine! Still waiting on a Gates interview. Interviewed at Michigan (LOVED IT!) and Iowa last week and off to Chicago tomorrow. Finals are coming up, which is very bad!
10/31/07 - Returned from Yale today (very impressive) and got an interview invite for the Rhodes!!!!!
10/26/07 - Leaving for Yale tomorrow! Also, Iowa interview invite today - I'm shocked!
10/21/07 - Ahhh Yale is only one week away! Must start prepping. In other news, only two weeks till I find out about a Rhodes and Marshall interviews and getting nervous.
10/19/07 - Just back from UCLA. WOW - I loved it!
10/16/07 - Leaving for my first interview at UCLA tomorrow morning. I have that nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach already. Trying to study for an exam I have to take right before I leave but not having much luck. Also, had to turn in a grant application within 24 hours of finding out it existed - that was fun. I love my professors though - so nice to know I can get two letters of recommendation in 24 hours if I needed them.
    10/10/07 - What a roller coaster of a day!
10/1/07 - What a great week - Homecoming Queen and another invite!
9/27/07 - Wow, first interview is now 3 weeks away rather than 2 months. Yikes, must start preparing!
    9/15/07 - Emory submitted
9/13/07 - First invite for Michigan! Working on Emory secondary too.
9/8/07 - Added Wisconsin, submitted secondary
8/30/07 - Complete everywhere but Emory and UCSF
8/6/07 - Last LOR received! I can't wait to finally be complete at some schools!
7/29/07 - Still working on secondaries. Some are ready to go but waiting on history application materials which I can't access until those applications open
7/13/07 - Secondaries are pouring in now. Just trying to keep plugging away at them.
7/10/07 - AMCAS verified!!! Bring on the secondaries!
7/8/07 - AMCAS waiting to be verified (submitted 6/28). Working on secondaries.
5/20/07 - Still have to write MD/PhD essay but in the editing stage of the PS and research essay. Transcipts are unfortunately held up due to a mistake with one of my grades. Not too happy about this since I order them three weeks ago before classes were finished and then had to call from Germany to cancel them!
4/25/07 - I think I might have finally come up with a complete list of schools that I will be applying too. So happy school is almost done so I can get started on my essays. At least my LORs are set.
3/12/07 - Spring Break! Trying to get ahead on some homework and keep up with the flurry of emails to schools. Really wishing I had time to work on my PS right now. Thanks for all the positive comments! More comments would be appreciated in regards to whether I need more safety schools (I feel like all my schools are reach schools - but maybe I just need better self-esteem :-)
3/7/07 - Decided on history of medicine. I have been contacting schools with MD/PhD programs for the last couple of weeks and have found a few places that offer this combination. One down side - I have to take the GRE to get in :-(
