    Summary of Application Experience

This will be the first time applying (Fall 2007) to medical school, but this has been a life-long dream that was put on hold for many years. I will begin the application process shortly when AMCAS is opened for the 2007 application year.

I decided to apply to 20 schools, with a mixture of in-state schools, out-of-state schools in my MCAT range (I'll never be in range of any school with my cumulative GPA), and balance it with a few reach schools and a couple of extreme-reach schools (Yale, UNC-CH, UCSF...hey why not?)

Update: I had to withdraw my application from 4 schools after realizing that I didn't satisfy some of their special prereq requirements that most schools don't require, or that the school insisted on me finishing my second-degree or were upset that I left a PhD program.

    Time-Line Updates
    =================
Update 6/18/2006: my AMCAS is completed except waiting on 4 of my transcripts to arrive and still need to finish my personal statement. Waiting on my MCAT scores to see if I should finish my app and submit it.

Update 6/20/2006: new MCAT scores! I got a 33. Hopefully schools will take the 33 and forgive some of my poor grades from the past.

Update 6/24/2006: working on personal statement, need to finish this weekend. Still waiting on two transcripts to arrive. Might get a B in one of my summer courses, freaking out about that! :O

Update 6/27/2006: still working on personal statement, few more drafts to go. Waiting on one more transcript to arrive. Got the A in my summer course, thank God! (silly pre-med freak outs, lol) :)

Update 9/2006: finished AMCAS and submitted.

Update 10/2006: AMCAS Processed, secondaries coming in.

Update 10/27/2006: finishing up secondaries, going through rough-drafts, and submitting them as I get them done.

Update 11/2/2006: pre-med office at university still hasn't finished and sent out my LOR packet, so still polishing secondaries since sending them in early won't matter.

Update 11/12/2006: 8 secondaries completed, working on other 5 and still waiting to receive others.

Update 11/15/2006: 9 secondaries completed, deciding on whether to finish the other 4. Still waiting to receive 5 others.

Update 11/19/2006: 12 secondaries sent! Still waiting to receive 5 others.

Update 11/29/2006: 13 secondaries sent! 6 applications complete! Still waiting to receive 3 others from extreme reach schools (i.e. late March rejections). 0 Interviews, 0 contact from the schools.

Update 12/03/2006: 13 secondaries sent! 10 applications complete! Still waiting to receive 3 others from extreme reach schools (Total schools in the running=16). 0 Interviews, 0 contact from the schools.

Update 12/10/2006: 13 secondaries sent! 11 applications complete! Still waiting to receive 2 others from extreme reach schools (Total schools in the running=15). 0 Interviews, 1 Rejection.

Update 12/11/2006: 13 secondaries sent! 12 applications complete! Still waiting to receive 2 others from extreme reach schools (Total schools in the running=15). 0 Interviews, 1 Rejection.

Update 12/22/2006: 13 secondaries sent! 13 applications complete! Still waiting to receive 2 others from extreme reach schools (Total schools in the running=14). 0 Interviews, 2 Rejections (1 status page, 1 snail-mail)

Update 01/10/2007: 13 secondaries sent! 13 applications complete! Still waiting to receive 2 others from extreme reach schools (Total schools in the running=13). 0 Interviews, 3 Rejections (1 status page, 2 snail-mail)

Update 01/11/2007: 13 secondaries sent! 13 secondary applications complete! Still waiting to receive 1 other from an extreme reach school (Total schools in the running=12). 0 Interviews, 4 Rejections (1 status page, 3 snail-mail)

Update 01/18/2007: I think having heard nothing from UNC-CH and Yale means they will be rejections very soon. They are pretty much an extreme reach anyways, so I'll move them into the rejection pile. I'm really surprised that my own state schools won't even give me a chance to interview, though I can understand since I applied late in mid September and my prior academic history wasn't so hot.

Update 04/12/2007: So far, 1 waitlist (high-tier) and 1 hold. The waitlist at USF almost guarantees that I will receive an offer sometime in early May, 2007. I'll hear about the hold on Monday, April 16, 2007.

Update 04/23/2007: Got the call today...Accepted to USF! OMG, I'm going to become a physician! :)

Update 06/04/2007: Matriculating at USF, one of my top choices (Which were UM, USF, or UF so I could be near family)!
