Low grades due to my mother's long battle with, and eventual passing from, liver cancer. Applying for the third time. Last time (10/29/2004) I got an interview at CU, but was rejected (3/15/05).
7/10/05 - Talked with Dean of Admissions at CU. Found out why I didn't get in last time; didn't impress the interviewers (e.g. didn't show 'my passion for medicine.' The repeated applications and thousands of dollars spent wasn't obvious enough). Now I have to work against years of engineering training and display emotion.
8/20 - Submitted CU secondary and fees (my only real chance to get in). Now I wait for my invitation.
12/1 - I will be interviewing with CU again in a few days. To date, I have applied to 27 schools, recieved 25 secondaries, returned 23, and have an invitation to interview at 1 school.
12/9 - Interviewed with CU. Had the two best interviews of my life. One (I lucked out, she was a researcher,) was saying 'Wow, wow!' by the end of the interview and we went over on time because she forgot to look at her watch.
1/11/06 - Dropped off update letter, bumped into the dean of admissions, who actually recognized me. Still, however, I will probably have to wait until March to find out my status.
1/13 - Another rejection, U. of Chicago this time.
1/23 - Another publication under the belt. However, I was rejected from Brown and Boston.
1/30 - AECOM rejection in the mail.
2/3 - Wash U rejection in the mail.
4/1 - Albany Medical College in upstate New York sent me an interview request out of the blue - I thought that I had passed their deadline. Oh well, Albany here I come!
4/19 - Interviewed at AMC. Fun people, nice college and facilities, and all of the faculty I met were very helpful. I think I did well in my interviews.
4/25 - Accepted to Albany Medical College! I will finally be a doctor!

6/15 - Thanks everyone. Your comments have been great. I hope that folks will look at my profile and realize that they can follow their dreams, no matter what obstacles befall them. Also understand that mine was a special case, and I could only have done it with the help of the many wonderful people who saw potential in me and gave me a chance.
In closing, I am shutting down this profile and you won't be able to leave messages. But, as med school progresses (and residency, if I make it that far), I'll still try to help folks out and give advice. Please contact me via the screen name RxnMan on the Student Doctor forums if you have any quesitons. Best of luck to you all.
