I deployed twice for Hurricane Katrina response. The first mission I was on the team that set up and ran the field hospital at the New Orleans airport. The second trip my team was in a tent ER set up outside West Jefferson Hospital.
Awarded another patent. Dang, but the USPTO is slow.

Summary of Application Experience
Going to hurricanes puts a crimp on time for writing secondary essays.
I'm kinda disappointed with UWash's response so far. They received my primary application to the MD/PhD program in August, and so far (11/9) haven't responded to me at all.
UW claimed that they don't do out of state for non MSTP (searching here shows that's not quite true - there's at least one non-WWAMI who got an interview this year), and that there are 'too few spots in MSTP'. They were my second choice based on location anyway.
