  • Brief Profile: My story is an odd one. I graduated college in 2003 with about a 2.98 GPA. While in college I played two varsity sports (swimming and track) and was the captain of the swim team for 2 seasons. I was president of a very large organization on campus my Jr. and Sr. year and served on the SGA exec. board for two years. After college I started a Ph. D. in organic chemistry but decided a research life was not for me. I then dropped out and headed to Drexel University to do a post-bacc program (2 yr Masters). I have shadowed physicians, taught sex ed. to high school kids, currently I teach for Kaplan and do a lot of tutoring. The biggest things on my application are various leadership awards and teaching awards. I also spearheaded a 9-11 fundraiser that raised about $4,000 dollars on a campus of 1,300 people.

    Summary of Application Experience

8-14-05 I have recieved all my secondaries except for two. The waiting game begins....

8-27-05 Pitt still hasn't sent me a secondary yet they are being very slow this year. I guess if I dont get it 2 out of 3 screened secondaries is very good. I got my first interview at Tulane today! Wow, what a relief to finally have one.

8-29-05 After a strange, vague message from VCU they decided to grant me an interview. Two interviews and its only August :) Things seem to be going well.

9-08-05 Due to the hurricane my Tulane interview is a giant question mark. I am waiting to hear from them to see whats going on. I am very frustrated I haven't heard from Dartmouth or GW yet...

9-20-05 VCU is a great looking school, I believe you really need to visit the campus and meet the people to fully appreciate it. The interview was not bad and I think I did above average but there is room for improvement in my next interview. The good news is Tulane admissions is up and running so I should be able to reschedule my interview. The bad news is I was put on hold at GW till Feb. Oh well, long shot anyways. Making progress. Also, recieved UPitt's secondary no pre-sec. rejections!!

9-22-05 I'm in the 'possible interview pool' at Rosalind Franklin which from what I gather is good news. Got my first rejection from Pritzker today, I am expecting the Dartmouth rejection any day now.

10-01-05 Interview at Albany should be fun. Had to schedule it for OCt. 5th, it was either then or late November, I guess sooner is better.

10-19-05 I returned home from an amazing trip at Pitt to find my first acceptance! Tulane! While I am a little hesitant I know that I would have an amazing experience in New Orleans and the oppurtunities to be involved in the community there are endless. I will probably withdraw my application from everywhere accept GW, Pitt, VCU, UMD, Penn State, Drexel and Dartmouth. Thank god I don't have to travel so much anymore!! :)

11-09-05 Accepted at Pitt... Amazing feeling. I'll be withdrawing from every school except PSU, Vermont and Dartmouth but I will most likely still attend Pitt. Everything about the school is amazing and the people are great, truly a special place.

11-15-05 Rejected from Dartmouth, not really surprised saves me a trip I would have went on even with the Pitt acceptance.

3-1-06 So I have finally decided its over. I withdrew my last two applications and I am very happy with going to Pittsburgh!!

The whole process is very draining starting with the MCAT. The best advice I could give is to apply early and stay in contact with the schools you are most interested, just don't be annoying. I am proof that someone with a bad GPA can get into a top 20 school with some outstanding extra-curriculars, decent recent performance and a good MCAT.
