Brief Profile:
I received a degree in Economics from Penn in '96 and worked in several businesses around the U.S. & in Europe for a number of years before returning to school in January 2004.
I have a reasonable amount of non-medical volunteer work over an extended period. I also traveled to Honduras in January 2005 for a medical volunteer trip. I have some physician shadowing, including a week-long program of full time (~40 hours) resident shadowing in IM, Peds & Fam. Practice. My research experience is limited.
I feel that I wrote a very solid personal statment that briefly highlighted my success in business, effectively explained why I am drawn to medicine, and most importantly (hopefully) makes me sound interesting enough to grant an interview.
My MCAT is hopefully good enough to get a foot in the door anywhere and maybe my post-bacc GPA is too: 4.0. My Science GPA is reasonable, and my overall is a bit of a liability. Acceptances will probably come down to which schools focus on the MCAT (and perhaps my post-bacc and/or science GPA) & place significant value on my non-medical 'life experience' and which schools don't. If they do, I have a very competitive application. If they don't... I don't!
