Brief Profile:
(Comments are welcome, I'll approve anything that isn't spam...)
My undergrad career was pretty dismal. I got everything from F through A+ and ended up with a 2.75 or something overall. After graduation, I worked as an IT consultant for five years. Time flies when you're miserable, I guess.
I quit my job to go into the postbac pre-med program full time and emerged with a 3.94 GPA over 35 credits, raising my undegrad GPA to roughly 3.0. During the spring semester, I shadowed a clinical research physician for an extended amount of time and took the MCAT in April. I'm currently working as a clinical research assistant for the same physician.
I'd be lying to you if I said that I was 100% confident about my chances of admissions this year. That said, I believe I've done everything right since I quit my first career, and I look forward to seeing how all of this plays out.
**UPDATE 12-MAY-2006** My application process is now done. I will be attending Georgetown this fall!
I could not have imagined the success that I had over this cycle. I honestly thought that I would be lucky to have one acceptance; not only was I wrong, I ended up with some significant financial support from two of my acceptances. I was far from an ideal candidate, but it would appear that even an underdog can have his day. If anything, my story is proof that hard work and a little perseverance can overcome a lackluster undergraduate record. I'm going to be a doctor!!!
Just one last bit of advice: I wish I hadn't withdrawn any of my applications. I did this after receiving my first acceptance, but now that everything is over, I kind of wish I'd let those applications play out and let the schools decide either to reject me or invite me for an interview. It was a hasty decision to withdraw early, and I wish I hadn't done it. The truth is that I'd most likely have ended up at the same school anyway, but one never knows.

Summary of Application Experience
05/11/06: I'm mailing out withdrawals to VCU and EVMS tomorrow. Thanks mostly to a generous financial aid package, along with a few other factors, I will be going to Georgetown in the fall. I can't believe it!!!!! I plan to make one more update to my profile in a few days.
04/26/06: Sent my withdrawal letter to Wake Forest today.
03/22/06: Rejected from Penn. Big surprise, since I was never invited for an interview.
01/03/06: Received a rejection letter from Cornell via snailmail.
12/02/05: Received a rejection letter from UVA via snailmail, postmarked 11/30.
11/13/05: Tomorrow I will be mailing out my deposit checks to WF and GU. I'm sending a withdrawal from Drexel, since I would not move to Philadelphia with acceptances from elsewhere. In addition, I'm sending out withdrawal letters to a bunch of other schools: Jefferson, Temple, Hopkins, and GWU. That leaves only Cornell, UPenn, and UVA. The other NC schools have not received secondaries from me, and I doubt I'll get to them.
11/10/05: Received my Georgetown acceptance via snailmail today!
11/07/05: Received my Wake Forest acceptance via email today!
11/02/05: Received my Drexel acceptance in the mail today!
10/15/05: I checked my status on the VCU webpage today and learned that I've been accepted! Oh, and when I called EVMS on 9/29, I learned that I was accepted there as well.
10/11/05: Wake Forest interview also went quite well. I haven't heard from any other schools yet, so as of today, I have no interviews on the horizon. I'm pretty happy with the way things have gone so far, but I definitely want to hear back from a few more schools.
10/04/05: Georgetown interview went very well. I really liked this school.
9/29/05: I received a rejection letter via snailmail from Maryland today. I also called EVMS and was told of their decision, which I'll divulge later.
9/23/05: Drexel interview went well. This whole application process is rather odd/frustrating. Each school is different in ways that cater to different people, but at the same time, it's so difficult to get accepted anywhere that not many applicants actually have a choice as to where they will matriculate. I hope to be lucky enough to have a choice, but even if I didn't, would it matter?
9/20/05: I got an email from GW today that put my application on hold until February. Not sure what to make of that, but there isn't much I can about it. It isn't an outright rejection, anyway.
9/16/05: VCU interview went well.
9/12/05: Um, still sitting on Duke. I went to the EVMS interview on 9/9 and was very happily surprised with what I saw. I also got an email today that mentioned a Drexel interview invitation; I called and set it up right away. So to date I've submitted 13 out of 15 possible secondaries and been invited for 5 out of 15 possible interviews. No rejections yet, although I'm sure they'll come for me soon.
9/6/05: Fourth interview invite today at Wake Forest. Still haven't done Duke's secondary, still haven't heard from UNC.
8/29/05: Third interview invite today at VCU. Still haven't done Duke's secondary, still haven't heard anything from UNC.
8/24/05: My second interview invite today (Georgetown). I'm nervous as a wreck, but cautiously optimistic about my chances.
8/22/05: Drexel going out today once I get the @#!@ certified check. Got my first INTERVIEW invite today at EVMS.
8/18/05: Finished UMD and Cornell, need to do Drexel tonight. Now just waiting on two more schools (Duke and UNC). Been getting notifications that my applications are complete at my 'first wave' schools. Now I guess it's time to wait until interviews...
8/5/05: I've yet to receive five secondaries, which seems to be about right at this point. Of the three letters that should be sent, it appears that two of them weren't mailed until this or last week. The waiting game is killing me.
7/21/05: About halfway through the secondaries at this point. Need to work on VCU secondary essays.
7/16/05: So far, received five secondaries, completed all five. VCU's status page will finally be available on Monday.
Submitted AMCAS on 6/1, all transcripts already received well before then. AMCAS was processed and sent to schools on 6/8. MCAT scores were received on the evening of 6/15. Here's hoping for the best...
