Summary of Application Experience
June: Got my AMCAS in early this year; getting all my transcripts in was like herding cats, though. July: AMCAS verified. Here come the secondaries! August: The universe smiles on my friend and he gets off the waitlist at UCSF. I get his job! I'm a clinical research coordinator! September: Where are the interviews? I have to calm down. At this point last year, my AMCAS wasn't even verified. October: My first interview invite ... U of Pittsburgh. Very non-trad friendly. Woo hoo! November 8: I love Pitt and I love Pittsburgh. I love the coffee shop called Crazy Mocha ... it's got a totally cracked-out cow as its mascot. November something: Tufts interview scheduled for 1/10/06. December 1: I am going nuts! I hate Christmas, and I hate waiting more. I'm going to need a 12-step program to kick SDN. December 7: The Pitt Adcom meets today. Today is the day. Arrrrrgh! December 8: I'm in! I'm in! I'm in! Neurotransmitter surge ... January 10: I love Boston. There's something weird about Tufts. I can't put my finger on it. January 10 (later): Interview invite at Tulane! Woo hoo! Laisse le bon temps rouler (Let the good times roll) 1/23. January 18: Let's hear it for late interview invites! BU ... back to Boston on February 1st. January 23: Wow. Tulane is really cool. New Orleans is a fantastic place, filled with people who really love their city and want to rebuild. February 1: I love BU! They have this commitment to indigent patients that I didn't know about. But Boston is so expensive! February 9: I'm 'within acceptance range' at Tulane. Not bad, not bad. March 10: Rejected via e-mail from UC Davis (my alma mater.) Next time, use a stamp, people ... e-mail is sooooo tacky! March 29: Waitlisted at BU. Funny how I was pretty much set on Pitt until I heard from BU. Now ... hmmmm. Boston? April 20: Interview at Drew/UCLA? Strange but true. May 11: Accepted to Drew/UCLA. Will attend instead of Pittsburgh. What a long, strange trip it's been. (And it's just getting started!)
