Summary of Application Experience
Ten years out from undergrad, so more 'life experiences' than most. Plus, had spouse on board, always better to have a partner. Emphasized interest in humanities and dedicated civic involvement in application. Didn't emphasize achievements (academic, athletic, or otherwise). Good letters of recommendation from work, volunteer, and social contacts. Enjoyed the post-bacc year of pre-med classes. Application process hard but good for personal focus. During interviews, didn't explain away mediocre grades, age, or previous career. Instead focussed on personal growth and cross-disciplinary opportunities. Interviewed and accepted to one school very early, so withdrew from most secondaries. Tried to minimize stress, maximize pleasure, to learn and enjoy material, to be humble and patient.
