Summary of Application Experience
Long, painful, expensive process. Submitted primary end of June. Completed all secondaries by Sept. 10 (excepting Loyola that pre-screens) August MCAT.
11/24/04: received official letter today from Upstate informing me of my 'high priority wait list' status. I suppose the only word to describe how I feel right now is disgruntled. If I can't even get into my own state schools, it ain't looking good...
12/9/04: received pre-interview Dartmouth rejection last week.
12/10/04: received cornell rejection today
12/12/04: sent out updates to all schools
12/20/04: looks like a grand total of 8 interview invites for the 2004 year. 6 interviewed in 2004, 2 scheduled for early 2005. Still haven't heard from 13.
12/22/04: rejected from stony
1/10/05: MY FIRST ACCEPTANCE!!!!! I'M GOING TO BE A DOCTOR!!!!!! holy crap.
2/7/05: Accepted to Penn State :)
1/26/06: sent LOI to MSSM (aka, first choice school)
2/10/05: debated this for a long time - but finally withdrew from SUNY Buffalo, the last of my state schools. mainly for location reasons. looks like i'm definitely going private
2/11/05: sent LOI's to Mt. Sinai and Tufts. Why the long silence Tufts?
3/5/05: received 3 correspondences today - rejection from columbia, waitlist from nymc, and a 'your app is now complete' from Loyola. Looks like it's going to be Jefferson vs. BU at this point, due to urban location alone, which is a shame because I really liked PSU's program.
3/15/05: I figure things are winding down. Not expecting anything more from the remaining schools, but I'm satisfied with the application results. I feel lucky to have gotten into med school at ALL with my undergrad GPA. I never imagined I might have choices. Still trying to choose between BU and Jefferson.
4/20/05: Attended 2nd Looks for both BU and Jefferson. Was 'eh' about BU (may be psychological backlash from the SMP) and 'eh' about Boston the city, but I have friends and family outside of med school there. Really liked the kids at Jefferson, but it's hard to give up Boston and the support network I already have up there.
5/5/05: Late rejections from Tufts and Loyola. May be artifact of late MCAT.
5/10/05: Leaning towards Jefferson. Nicer facilities, lower cost of living, closer to home, more laid back student body, larger student body (for less of the 'high school' effect).
5/11/05: Still waiting on financial aid from BU. Have called them multiple times. This is not making me any more inclined to attend their school.
5/15/05: Decided on Jefferson. I went against majority opinion on this one, which was a little frightening, but I got a better vibe from Jeff.
