Summary of Application Experience
APPLY EARLY! I submitted my primary in late August and several secondaries were held up by letter-writers who took too long. Also, try to turn over secondaries quickly. This is easier to do if you don't overwhelm yourself by applying to too many schools (another challenge I struggled with).
Though it seems like it would be common sense, I recommend focusing on schools that are good MATCHES for your particular interests (i.e. research vs. primary care vs. community/international health vs. rural med, etc.). I think I got into Drew/UCLA (one of my top choice schools) because my goals, interests and activities are consistent with the school's mission.
DON'T GIVE UP! I was rejected from 25 schools...but got into one (and a great one, at that--in-state tuition, great school, great location, and great match for my interests)!!!
