08/30 - Submitted AMCAS (I've got to work on procrastination). Being late added a lot of stress and it meant that schools took a lot longer before getting back to me. It also makes the application process longer than it needs to be!
11/06 - Interview at WashU. The people were wonderful and the facilities were phenomenal! Being my first interview, though, I don't believe it went well...we shall see.
11/30 - Interview at Baylor. AMAZING!!!!! I fell very much in love with this school. Their emphasis on care of the underserved and international medicine, the involvement of the school, students, and faculty in international experiences and community outreach, and the atmosphere of the school in general was wonderful. Also, I felt very at home with the Hispanic population of Houston and hope to have the opportunity to practice medicine at such a location.
12/12 - Interview at University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. The clinical experience is really great. I really loved this school and felt very welcome and invited. The interview with a psychologist was also really cool. :)
12/14 - Interview at Emory. A very beautiful school with lots of opportunities.
12/20 - My first acceptance! University of Tennessee Health Science Center. It feels wonderful! I'm going to be a doctor, thanks to God! :)
01/07 - Interview at NYU. I loved it! NYC is amazing; it has such a diverse patient population. Also, I got a really good vibe from NYU; all the students, staff, and faculty were really nice. There is lots of funding available for international opportunities. And the area around the campus was pretty cool.
01/09 - Interview at Cornell. Wow! I loved Cornell! I'm not sure how the interview went, but the school is amazing and I really hope that I will have the opportunity to attend here. The patient population, the opportunities in international medicine, the support from the administration, and most of all, the students, are absolutely amazing!!
01/11 - Interview at University of Rochester. Their biopsychosocial model fits really well with my thoughts on medicine. It was a really great and supportive environment. They start their ambulatory care clerkship second semester of first year, allowing them to have some of the earliest in-depth clinical exposure than almost any other school, I believe.
01/12 - Accepted to WashU! Wow, I can't believe it! I thought my interview had gone terribly! I can't believe I have this opportunity! :)
01/14 - Interview at Mount Sinai. I really enjoyed the supportive environment there. The students that I met were really laid back and chill.
01/16 - Interview at Columbia. Awesome school! Great anatomy course and the students work really hard. I really appreciate that in a school.
01/18 - Accepted to Mount Sinai! Now I have the chance of attending school in NYC!
02/18 - It's been a while since I've had any med school activity! I've dropped some interviews because I'd rather go to WashU and it's not worth it to spend more money on plane tickets. I'm really excited about that acceptance and I will go to WashU unless I get a really nice financial package from another school. And even then, it'll be hard to turn down a top-notch research medical school like WashU!
We're approaching the end of the application process! This next month is going to reveal a lot... the non-rolling schools, the financial aid packages, the second-look weekends. And then, summer begins, and it'll be work, work, work again! So, I am trying to enjoy this last semester in undergrad as much as possible. :P
02/22 - Accepted to University of Rochester! I'm happy for this one since the environment is really supportive, and I have developed great relationships with my research mentors there from the summer program.
02/27 - Interview at Yale! I loved this school! They have a tuition-free fifth year, and over half the students take this year to get a double-degree. It'd be a great way to get an MPH. And the students were really happy because all of the tests are completely anonymous.
02/28 - Interview at Harvard!!!!! I am so amazed by this school. The students there are very driven, but in the end, are not so very different from students at other schools. I am really honored to have had this opportunity to interview at this school. It is also my goal to make it to a top residency program, so it's great to have seen that it is very possible to reach this goal, if only one keeps working hard and is persistent.
03/08 - Accepted to Baylor!!! Yay!!!!! This school had a great feel and atmosphere; everyone was really happy. I think I like the aura of Texas, too. I'm looking forward to the second-look weekend!
03/13 - URM Second-Look Weekend at Baylor! Oh I love the atmosphere here. It just feels like home, like a wonderful fit. The students are the warmest and friendliest out of all the schools I've visited. It's going to be a very hard decision to make in the coming weeks!
03/14 - Accepted to Yale!!!!! Wow!! I loved their program, their atmosphere, their curriculum...wonderful! And many of their students take a fifth year to get an MPH or other program. I'm really glad to have this opportunity!
03/19 - Offered URM merit scholarship to Baylor! It would be full scholarship if I were in-state, but it covers about half of out-of-state tuition. I'm very thankful for this!
04/09 - Offered full merit scholarship to Yale!!!!! I can't believe it! What an amazing opportunity.
05/09 - I am going to Yale School of Medicine!!!!! Gracias a Dios.
05/14 - Yale is officially my new home! Now, on to becoming the best doctor I can become! :)
