Summary of Application Experience
I have a low GPA due to not taking college seriously in my early 20s. My MCAT score is also lopsided due to a hate relationship with physics!!! I'm hoping my graduate work (thesis & publication) in the hard sciences with a 4.0 GPA may get my foot in the door. I have excellent LOR's from my professors and pretty good medical related EC's. So here's hoping for some bites!!! Submitted app 9/1...now waiting....
9/15 update - Just got my August MCAT scores and am disappointed in all but my bio score. I averaged 10-12 on all verbal practice tests I took and I end up w/ an 8?!?! Well, I'm hoping the composite score of 27 will be good enough! Working on secondaries...
11/14 - Due to money issues, haven't sent secondaries out yet. I know I'm late in the game, but am going to try for a few schools anyway. Rejected from DMUCOM pre-secondary. Saves me some $$$!
12/5 - 5 of 12 secondaries sent! Waiting on two letter of recommendations (one from a DO and the other from my thesis advisor (even though I asked him 2 months ago) I am officially broke for Xmas thanks to this process :)!
1/9 - All secondaries are complete and in. Now, just hoping.... Got a rejection from Western today. That one hurts as it is the alma mater of the DO I shadow.
1/14 - Received interview invite from TUNCOM! One of my top choices!
1/22 - Received an interview invite from PNW for the 15th of February! Keeping my fingers crossed that more may be rolling in :) :)
2/2 - Received an interview at LMU-DCOM for the 22nd of Feb. Am really excited about this one as from what I've read on SDN, the students love their school!!
BTW, comments are welcome. Just please be nice :)!
2/10 - Rejection from ATSU - Arizona. No reason given other than they received too many applications... Just proves the randomness of the process. :)
2/11 - Rejection from ATSU - Kirksville. Do they talk to each other or was it coinsidence that I got my rejections a day apart. Darn small envelopes waiting for me when I get home. Still have 3 interviews to console me tho (at three awesome schools :) :) )
2/15 - Interview invite from AZCOM for 4/9
2/24 - Two interviews down. PNW and DCOM. I LOVED DCOM!!!! I HATED PNWCOM!!! Received PNW's rejection today and am definitely not sad as I would never go there. (Although I'm sure for some, it's a good fit..not me tho!) Two more interviews coming up. I hope I get into DCOM :) :) :)
2/27 - Sent secondary to LECOM-B as I'd like to investigate the PBL only curriculum if I get an interview. Still hoping for DCOM tho..find out next week.
3/11 - Ok, two waitlists. (sigh) LMU-DCOM which means in essence rejection as they rarely take people from out of state off the waitlist. Touro-NV stung a bit as it's my first choice. But, I'm waiting...and HOPING for good results.
4/6 - YIPPEE! Got the acceptance email from Roger at TUNCOM today! My first choice so no more interviews for me. My advice is to apply early and avoid the angst that comes with being on a waitlist! :) :) However, it worked out in the end. AND I'M THRILLED!
