    Summary of Application Experience

    7/18
Sent off my AMCAS to get verified. Hope it doesn't take too long.

    8/6
Got verified today. The wait time was about 2 1/2 weeks, much shorter than the 4-6 weeks it takes during peak season. I'm really glad I got my AMCAS off a bit earlier than most. U Chicago and Wash U both sent out unscreened secondaries.

    8/7
Found out one of my letters of recommendation didn't come through. Called the professor and she sent finished it and sent it out today.

8/10 Done with U Chicago! Right now it's my top med school choice. One of the essays was awful, so I've been staring at that thing for three weeks. My pre-health committee got my LORs uploaded today, so my file is complete and ready to go.

    8/22
Got my first interview at U Chicago, my top school!

    8/28
Second interview at Case and made the first Mayo cut. Yay! I think I've decided to cut down to 11 schools. I'm dropping Ohio out of the mix because I don't really want to go to a state school out there for the next four years.

    9/6
Got my third interview at Iowa today. I also have all my secondaries and only TWO MORE to submit!! The end is in sight!

    9/20
Had my first interview this week. It went really well. I liked Case's curriculum and the students there seemed really nice. They all loved the curriculum too and had plenty of time to do other things besides school (that's a good sign!) The amount of hospitals to work in seemed amazing and I really like their dual focus on patient interaction and research. Not sure if I want to spend the next four years outside of driving distance from the family, though.

    9/24
All the secondaries are in! I mailed my last one off today. Oh, and Harvard FINALLY found enough time to upload my VirtualEvals. They've only been there for 6+ weeks already. Oh well, I am now complete there, too. Tomorrow I head off to Iowa for the interview there.

    9/28
Mayo interview came in today!!! I'm really excited as Mayo is a huge crap-shoot for anyone. Also had a great interview at Iowa on Wed. I actually liked Iowa much better than Case Western. I think the curriculum fit my learning style much better. It's a bit more structured and lecture-oriented rather than all case-based. Facilities were really nice and all the students I met seemed really cool.

    10/18
Got my first acceptance today from Iowa. SO EXCITED!!! I also had an amazing interview at Mayo on Monday. Let's just say that if I get accepted, there is no way I would turn Mayo down. The education there is amazing and the people are wonderful. On a side note, as I walked into the M1 anatomy class, I saw a guy from my college physics class sitting in there. Turns out that he goes to Mayo and I had no idea. I also had my Chicago interview several weeks ago. That school is also amazing. Once again, the students were great and the education good. Plus it's in Chicago and not a corn field (like Mayo and Iowa). The expense is a drawback, though.

    11/17
Well, I haven't updated in a while. Decided to withdraw from U of MN after receiving an interview invite. Comes down to the fact that an out-of-state school that is a state school is really expensive. I'd rather end up at Iowa in my home state. I also got a Wash U interview! I think I'm going to take that one since I have friends down there and it seems like a great school. Still waiting to hear back from Mayo about acceptances/waitlists/rejections.
