Summary of Application Experience
I feel like I could give every premed advice on what not to do to get into medical school. I applied late. I didn't take an MCAT review course. My letters of recommendation were from professors that didn't know me all that well. I was a reapplicant with a below average MCAT for most schools. I bring no sort of diversity to any medical school class (sorry all you white guys out there). I had every excuse in the book for not getting in the first time I applied.
Unless you have an overly compelling story about how you saved a whole tribe of pygmies in the Amazon or something like that, the only things that really matter with regards to acceptance are your MCAT scores and your GPA. There are plenty of stories out there about how some people with 4.0's and 42's on their MCAT don't get in to med school. Interpersonal skills are important, don't get me wrong, but don't kid yourself. Don't take the MCAT lightly....take a prep course and do well on it.
