Summary of Application Experience
I'm a chemical engineering student who is applying next year if I don't get into medical school this year. Currently, I'm a fourth year junior and am trying to sneak in before graduating. I'm currently, after interviewing in February, on the waitlist at West Virginia University. The reason I'm not graduating this spring is that I got severely sick the fall of my third year at the beginning of the semester and fell so far behind (even a week is murder for chemE's, let alone a whole month), my advisor and I decided it was best to stretch my undergrad to 5 years. This actually turned out to be a blessing because I had more time to study for the MCAT's and have an extra semester to take some pre-req's for med school I would have had to cram in otherwise.
I'm extremely excited either way (if I get in this year or have to reapply next year) but would like to know a couple of things:
1)Should I retake the MCAT? Since taking the MCAT orginally I've taken more biology (including micro, physiology, and biochem). Also my grades aren't the best...
2)In writing my personal essay, should I include the details on why I don't have any classes in the fall of 2005, or should I just wait until it gets brought up in the interview? There aren't any W's or anything because the advisor filled out a form explaining everything to the registrars office...it just looks like I didn't take any classes then.
3)Are there any other schools I should be looking at? I'm waiting for the new MSAR book to be available, but in the meantime I'm looking for any school that doesn't mind out of state students with my grades/MCAT (price isn't an issue because I'm joining the NAVY to pay for my schooling).
