    Summary of Application Experience

6/13 After I just went up to sign my lease on an apt in Lubbock, I get the call from UTMB and UTH 2 days before the deadline for people with other offers. Holy Guacamole it's been a ride. I will be attending Houston this fall, and I am STOKED!!!

3/5 Waitlist letter from UTH. Since I don't know of anyone in person, and only one on SDN with the letter, I'm assuming their alternate pool is a little more selective. At this point I'm really liking everything that Tech is sending me though, and would kind of feel bad going elsewhere.

2/27 Got a waitlist letter from UTMB, the pool seems extremely large, my fingers aren't crossed. Every day I get more and more excited about attending Tech. The other people I know that are also headed up there are interesting, vibrant, and intelligent folk.

2/15 Matched at 3rd choice, my prematch offer at Texas Tech. I loved the tours, facilities and personal treatment they gave me. They really were right when they told me I'd be a perfect 'match' at Tech. While I did enjoy the school and am sure I will love it once I'm there, I can't help but feeling that I got screwed by being the guinea pigs for the new prematch/match system. I am a lucky one going in with a prematch offer, I know of one person that matched without an earlier offer. CRAZY.

THOUGHTS: TO TEXAS RESIDENTS: APPLY OUT OF STATE. I KNOW THAT EXTRA APPLICATION SEEMS LIKE A LOAD OF WORK, BUT TALK TO ANY TEXAS APPLICANT THIS SEASON AND THEY WILL MOST LIKELY AGREE. ALSO... APPLY EARLY! WORDS CAN'T EXPRESS HOW MUCH THIS EFFECTS YOUR ADMISSION SUCCESS.

1/15- I am, at this point in time, really quite nervous, I want to go to one of my top two, though I have a scholarship at the third. Match Day's in a month.

12/14- A&M invite. Declined because I'd probably take my acceptance at TTU over attending A&M no matter which way you slice it. Not positive I'm making the right choice, but we'll see.

12/1- UT Houston interview- had with a VIP interviewer...super intimidating. To the best of my knowledge went alright. First interviewer very personable and hilarious. Fabulous tour. Aching to go here.

11/16- Accepted to TTU-SOM prematch. For the love of God, at least someone wants me. Really starting to wonder what's going on with UTHSCSA.

10/14- Second MCAT scores available. Heck Yes! My last minute decision payed off! A 31 sure beats the heck out of a 27! Words can't express the relief.

10/11- Texas Tech Interview- surprisingly enjoyed the school and the students. Had a fabulous interviewer that actually emailed ME thanking me before I had even arrived back in Austin

09/22- UTMB Interview- went great. First interview told me (and I quote) 'You'll get in no problem. Your number one choice for sure.' EDIT: THIS DID NOT HAPPEN

8/21 Retook the MCAT. Had to postpone my test date to sunday for extenuating circumstances (singing in someone's funeral). Get this, took it with ONE other person. Seeing as I didn't cry during the middle of this one, I think it went better. We'll see.

8/12- Just a guestimate of when everything was in and active for me in my TMDSAS file

... the interviews were REALLY spread out, which made this process far more drawn out than it needed to be

...took the MCAT twice (got a 27Q the first time), it was an incredibly long process, once was enough

My boyfriend is headed to UT Houston this year, and my brother is an MD/PhD at Baylor. Tough crowd.

Best advice, try not to compare and compete with those around you too much. GOOD LUCK! If I did it, so can you...
