    Summary of Application Experience

Got my transcripts in middle of June, submitted AMCAS 6/22, verified and made available to schools 6/29. Now the waiting game begins.

7/9/07--Submitted secondaries for Columbia, Cornell, Rochester, Albert Einstein, Dartmouth.

8/24/07--Submitted all secondaries except for Stanford.

    8/25/07--First interview offer--thanks Tufts!

8/31/07--All secondaries in. The terrible, terrible waiting game begins.

Early september -- Downstate, Sinai, and Hopkins interviews scheduled. Don't know why Sinai schedules it so long in advance... very annoying.

9/23/07--First rejection, courtesy of Georgetown. I knew this whole process was going a little too smoothly... Oh well.

10/2/07--Columbia invite! One of my dream choices going in to this whole business, so incredibly exciting to get the invite.

10/2/07--Interviews so far have gone well, I think. I've only had one interview where my interviewer seemed to be trying to stress or test me (Tufts), and when I didn't get flustered at the start, he seemed to really open up and was friendly for the remainder. Everywhere else have been completely friendly, reasonable conversations. Either I've been lucky with who I've gotten, or most interviewers actually don't want to scare the crap out of the people they meet.

12/20/07--Couldn't be happier. Just got an early acceptance e-mail from Cornell, which I loved. Even if I don't hear from anywhere else, I'm going to have an incredibly tough choice to make in a couple of months. Hopkins has the name, but Cornell's got the location and, I think, curriculum. Gonna be on a cloud for the next couple of days.

3/14/08--Just got acceptance email from Yale, which is completely unbelievable. It feels so good to just be done with this nonsense, and know that I can actually start thinking of my choices. Even though I loved Stanford, I just don't know whether I could change my plans if I got in there (unlikely in any case) in June, so it looks like it's down to Cornell, Yale, and Hopkins. Obviously, I'm the luckiest human alive.

5/17/08--After amazing revisits to Yale and Hopkins, I felt like Hopkins was the right choice. After gettting about 17 times as much in scholarship aid from Yale, I reconsidered... But after finally getting in touch with the Hopkins finaid department they said there'd been some kind of mistake and more than matched Yale's offer... So Baltimore, here I come! Woot.

Later, 5/17/08--Just got a bizarrely informal e-mail from Stanford: 'Hi ______, I wanted to know if you were still interested in coming to Stanford for medical school next fall.'!!!!! I don't even know what to think. Loved Stanford when I was there, but literally haven't thought about it in the three months since they waitlisted me... My mind's about to explode.
