Summary of Application Experience
I applied last year to a lot of really good schools. I shot for the stars and missed. Though, I had two interviews. One at U of M and the other at Mayo. I feel a lot more confident about the whole process this year as compared to last.
Called schools on 9-18-06:
Wake Forrest: '...in the interview pool.' I'm a lower priority, so I might not hear until Dec.
Medical College of Wisc: 'in the interview pool.' Smae thign as above. lower priority.
Michigan State University: '...under evaluation....should hear in a week.'
University of Iowa, Carver: I'm below standard, but they are holding my application just in case...I may hear in Dec. or Jan.
It not looking good for Loyola, Vermont or Cincinnati. But we'll see... I'll call them soon. Though, I here Loyola is very slow.
--------------
10-3: So I found out Cincinnati sent me a secondary because they sent me a 'file incomplete' email. I believe my hotmail accoun t must have sent the email to the 'junkmail' pile and it must have been deleted. No I am much further behind than I would have been, but I guess it is still pretty early.
I fear the same thing might have happened with Vermont...
...yeah it did with vermont. everything is in now.
10-26-06 : My first acceptance! Creighton U.
11-10-06: Interview invitation for U of Minn. I'm going to really try and compare them with Creighton to see if they can offer the same things. We'll see.
12-12-06: I got my letter back from U of Minn. I'm waitlisted which is ok. Creighton is looking better. I think I would rather go to a school that wants me as opposed to settling for me.
2-8-07: So, several rejections as of late. I figure at this point, more than likely my only acceptance will be Creighton (which is great!) and we'll just have to see about the U of Minn. The truth is, I don't know what I would do if I got accepted to the U. Part of me would just like to withdraw my apps and make my decision final.
2-1-06: I just got an invitation to interview at NYMC. Pretty exciting. I'll prbably stick out like a sore thumb. Minnesota boy in New York. Yikes.
5/21/2007: Ben a long time since I've posted. In the last week, I've been accepted to NYMC, but I declined the offer. I also was given the opportuntiy to be #18 on the waitlist. It isn't exactly number 1, but it is still pretty promising. I have decided I would like to go to the U over Creighton. I will therefore be trying to wait it out a bit. Hopefully in the begining of June I will hear something. I would be happy at Creighton so it's okay if I don't get into the U. But I want to wait a little longer before I give up on Minnesota. We'll see.
6/5/2007: So there has been a lot of speculation regarding the lack of movement on the U of Minn waitlist. I've heard they are expecting to pull about 20 from teh waitlist and I've now heard they have over enrolled by 30. I realy don't know what that means. I am planning a vacation from June25 to July24 in Thailand so I want to have this done by the time I go. And my girlfriend basically hates me and the medical schools for how long and shitty this process is going. I'm waiting this week to see how things go. We'll see.... :(
