    Summary of Application Experience

Used USNWR info and MSAR data to look for schools with average entering GPA's that were closer to my range. Only applied to these seven.

Took August 04 MCAT, submitted AMCAS without knowing scores 10/2/04 (Kansas' AMCAS deadline was 10/15).

Michigan State took my money and held my application for 8 weeks to compare to other applications before rejecting me.

I failed to return BU's secondary after doing a little more research about the school.

Creighton required 3 letters, 2 from science profs. My original letter writer fell off the face of the earth which caused me to rush to a second choice (who I hadn't had since freshman year). Without the second letter, I didn't complete the secondary.

Finished secondaries to Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska by December of 04. Interviewed at KU 1/6/05, and Nebraska 1/14/05.

KU was very open about the admissions procedure and what was going to happen next. They actually tell you your position on the waitlist if you aren't accepted in their initial runs of mailings.

    Mailed Tufts Secondary 1/25/05

    Was accepted to KU 1/27/05.

Interview to Mizzou offered on 1/31/05, but original appointment time didn't work with my class schedule, so I asked to reschedule to a later date.

    Accepted to Nebraska 2/3/05

    Withdrew from Tufts 2/3/05

Mizzou's second interview scheduling came 2/4/05, and after a lot of thinking, I decided to withdraw as KU and Nebraska were my top choices far and away.

Struggled immensely with the decision on where to go, as I strongly preferred the atmosphere at Nebraska, but was hesitant to spend the extra money. Nebraska does have out of state tuition waivers they give out, and even without the waiver I had decided to go there...

But in the end it didn't matter as I received a $100,000 phone call from Nebraska (4/6/05). The call came literally the very next day after I had decided I was going to Nebraska for sure, regardless of the money.

I withdrew from KU on 4/8/05.

I'll admit, I did nearly everything wrong - applied late, to very few schools, waited for a long time to finish the few secondaries I did get, interviewed well toward the end of the cycle for the schools I did go to, and yet...still got in. Just goes to show that there's no 'perfect' means.
