Summary of Application Experience
GPA/MCAT scores +/- 1 for sake of anonymity.)
6/1/07: Status change at UCLA's website. MY body was tingling when i heard this, but i couldn't just call the admissions office bc it closed for the weekend. Now approaching what will probably be the climax of your hero's application cycle.
5/25/07: SDN had a few people pulled off UCLA's waitlist. Kinda bummed i wasn't invited to the party.
5/14/07: Supposedly the day before we have to choose one school. In choosing btw Davis and AECOM i had to just go with my gut. I'd be way happier at in NY. Happier but poorer.
4/17/07: Not much to update. Most schools have sent a final decision by now (mostly rejection). Still waiting for Downstate and UCLA, two schools which are taking their sweet time. LA would be a miracle.
3/15/07: Finally waitlisted by Mich. Expected.
1/24/07: Woohoo! got into my first in-state school! Also very excited about Einstein. Other than the cost, i really liked everything there. AECOM was unexpected-- I coulda sworn i was insta-rejected when my interviewer shot me this nasty look when i told him my two favorite Yankees were Giambi and Sheffield (better than lying or worse yet, saying gA-rod. still... wrong answer). Oh yeah, and i'm in love with UCLA.
12/21/06: Relieved. I'm finally accepted somewhere. All that hard work and all that money down the drain, finally, i can say i will be a medstudent next year. Hopefully good news tomorrow, Mich's long awaited decision day. I will pray for a miracle tonight. *update no news again. delayed decision till march where 20-30 of us hope to be plucked from the highly-desireable list*
11/19/06: It's been quiet. Too quiet. Still no word from a lot of these schools and the only other news i've received has been bad.
10/18/06: Well, i didn't get rejected from Mich. i didn't get waitlisted either, so there is still hope for us 'highly desireably' 'December decision' folk. Funds, probability, and common sense tell me to pass on three interviews( Being a little bummed out post-15th probably influenced this decision too). I'm still waiting on UCLA and the Boston and NY schools to hurry up and review my secondary. It's no rush, although i wish i had an acceptance to safely hold on to.
9/18/06: First batch of interviews went well. For many reasons, i think it's best to defer some interviews until after dooms-day, October 15th. If i get rejected from Mich, i will begrudgingly continue flying around the country.
8/30/06: I should start prepping for interviews. Maybe getting comfortable talking with human beings will help. They are strange. On another less positive note, I have exceeded the $5,000 mark. Very easily done. This does not even include the $1000 of MCAT prep.
8/17/06: No more secondaries! Hooray. I got a bit lazy at the end, but it should be ok. Now I just have to wait for interviews.
8/3/06: I'm getting so tired of this. This ish is getting EXPENSIVE.
7/27/06: I'm finally at that point where I can just recycle old essays. Sweet.
7/7/06: Secondaries are streaming in. My LORs should be stellar and ready to send within the next week. I am pretty stoked about my first interview at U Mich. Need to start practicing for that.
I wish i were a better/faster writer. It would make this whole process so much less annoying.
6/21/06: Primary App Verified
6/17/06: Primary App Submitted
--------------------------------------------------------------------- Thirty-something schools is a lot! but I'd rather fork over the cash during primaries and weed schools out later. Plus a lot of the them are Cali or top-tier city schools where my chances are slim to none. I'm hoping that if these out-of-reach schools give me a few interviews then it'll become like a Shaq free-throw line-- 2 for 11, sans those lane violation do-overs.
