    June 19, 2006:
    Received MCAT scores.

    June 22, 2006:
Submitted primary application. Waiting for transcripts.

    July 18, 2006
AMCAS verified. Waiting on letters of recommendation.

    July 24, 2006
Realized that I haphazardly misidentified a physician I shadowed on my AMCAS. I listed him as Alan Greenspan rather than Gary Greenspan. No, I did not shadow the Federal Reserve Chairman.

    July 26, 2006
I received an interview invite from U Pitt!

    July 29, 2006
Boston, FSU, Emory, and Drexel have not released their secondaries to any applicants yet.

    August 7, 2006
I did not apply to Vanderbilt or Medical University of South Carolina. I thought I did, indicated that I did on mdapps, and heard nothing from the two schools for a month and a half. I consulted my AMCAS today and realized my mistake. Vandy would have been one more reach school and MUSC only accepts OOS students as 5% of their matriculants.

    August 14, 2006
Added U of Rochester and Temple. Received peer LOR. Still waiting on non-science LOR.

    August 22, 2006
Finally received the non-science letter of recommendation. Should be complete at more schools shortly.

    August 25, 2006
Two interview offers and no explicit rejections so far. Sounds good.

    September 8, 2006
Submitted but not complete at NYMC (I failed to send proper LORs), UF (calling to inquire later today), and possibly at Temple (status page is a bit vague, unsure wheter they have received all my LORs yet).

    September 11, 2006
Called UF last Friday. I was put on hold while person answering phone tried to find her password to Interfolio to check if they had downloaded my LORs yet. She said call back on Monday. Woke up this morning to find an e-mail informing me that my file is complete.

    September 20, 2006
Some alma mater love. I was swearing USF off because of my lack of volunteering.

    October 6, 2006
I had an interview at EVMS scheduled to take place within the next three weeks. Due to family reasons that were beyond my control, I was unable to attend on the originally scheduled date. So, I called the office of admissions to reschedule. Cue dialoque:

    Office: 'Hello'
Me: 'Hi, my name is _ _, and I need to reschedule my October interview.'
    Office: 'Ok, please hold'
    Me: 'Ok'
    -Hold-
Office: ' Ok, so when can you reschedule?'
    Me: 'November, 24, November 27, December 8'
Office: ' Ok we're not interviewing on a couple of those days. Let me see what I can do.'
    Me: 'Ok'
    -Hold-
Office worker 2:' You do know that we use rolling admissions, right?'
Me: 'Yes. I understand that people will already be accepted by the time I interview.'
Office Worker 2: 'We've already accepted some people.'
    Me: 'Oh.'
Office Worker: 'Due to an influx of OOS applicants this year, the director has decided that we are not offering rescheduling.'
Me: ' I would love to attend on this date, but for reasons beyond my control, I can't'
Office worker 2: 'Why exactly do you need to reschedule.'
    Me: 'Personal family reasons.'
Office worker 2:'I see. Please hold.'
    -Hold-
Office Worker 2: ' What's the date of your interview and what was your name again?'
    Me: '_ _, and October _.'
Office Worker 2: ' And you'll be able to give us more advance notice if you need to reschedule your interview again.'
Me: 'Yes, of course. I apologize for having to reschedule so close to the actual interview date.'
Office Worker 2: 'Ok. You're interview will no longer be held on that date and you can call back after the first of next month to reschedule an interview for next year.'
    Me: 'Oh. Thanks. Bye.'
    Office Worker 2: 'bye.'

WTF?!? I called to reschedule and pretty much shoot myself in the foot. The admissions staff pretty much said: you're just one of many OOS's, you're lazy for not informing us earlier, and EVMS will probably have its OOS portion of the class full by the time you eventually interview. I understand what you're trying to tell me, EVMS. I will be withdrawing my application shortly. Thank you for your poor customer service and your inability to sympathize with applicants who are real people and have real things happening in their lives outside of applying to med school.

    October 17, 2006
Four interviews down and three to go and two to cancel. I will probably not be interviewing at Temple and EVMS because of other interviews and rude office staff, respectively. In response to someone's comment, my top choice in state is UF and my top choice out of state is Pittsburgh. The late interview at UF is a result of a tight schedule and their offering interviews only on Fridays.

    October 18, 2006
Accepted at UM! The last four years of undergrad have actually been worthwhile academically. I will be a medical student in 10 months and a doctor many years from now.
