    Nothing crazy.

The listed GPA uses the OMSAS(Ontario) GPA conversion to a 4.00 scale, but my school uses a 4.50 scale.

    Summary of Application Experience

I AM GOING TO UBC Vancouver!!!!

Aug. 19/06 - Wrote MCAT, form DJ
Sep. 6/06 - Submitted the UBC application, must get going on OMSAS and Manitoba
Sep. 29/06 - Submitted the University of Manitoba application.
Oct. 1/06 - Submitted the OMSAS application form, which includes Ottawa, Queen's, and Toronto.
Oct. 12/06 - Received my MCAT scores. I am in complete disbelief. I actually believe it is a mistake. I feel completly blind-sighted and will be contacting AAMC to remark my VR. The 6 actually is a killer at a lot of the schools I applied to, so I need to know if that's what happened. In case you are wondering, the exam felt like any other practice exam I had done. I didn't post my later AAMC scores, but I started getting around 10/11 and the last exam was 1 question from a 12. This is the worst thing that has ever happened to me in my academic endeavours to date. I really feel like shit right now and I have to wait until I send my request and AAMC responds. Thanks for all the words guys, I will keep you posted.
Oct. 31/06 - Received MCAT Rescore request back. My mark remains. I will be re-writing in January.
    Nov. 1/06 - Submitted the U of Alberta application. It's a prayer.
Nov. 15/06 - Registered for the January MCAT. I will writing on January 27, 2007. Interesting how I wrote the very last paper/pencil and will also be writing the first CBT. It sort of makes me special in an unfortunate way.
Jan. 12/07 - Received the long-awaited official rejection letter from the University of Manitoba today. No surprise here.
Jan. 16/07 - Checked my UBC account and I have received an interview offer. I'm pretty excited and we'll see what happnes. With my verbal reasoning, all hope may be lost but since they use the MCAT after interviews I can still get a great experience from interviewing this year and coming back with a vengence next year.
Jan. 27/07 - Wrote the MCAT CBT today. It was pretty hard. PS was okay I guess, VR (I ran out of time on one question), and BS was okay. I guess I'll let everyone know in about a month.
Jan. 30/07 - Rejection letter from Queen's University. I knew as soon as my MCAT came out.
Feb. 8/07 - Ottawa rejection. I made the GPA cut-off, but my detailed autobiographical sketch didn't. Oh well, better luck next time.
Feb. 26/07 - Interviewed at UBC.
    Feb. 28/07 - Got new MCAT 13PS 9VR 12BS T (34T). Wish I had gotten a 10 in VR, but I didn't finish on test day. I'm much happier than I was in Aug. 06. Actually...I wasn't happy at all in Aug.
Mar. 14/07 - I haven't heard anything from UofT and their website says they have stopped sending invites. I assume my application is in the rejection pile. Oh well...not really a surprise.

I'm currently thinking about which schools I may be applying to next year. This year isn't looking so good - I feel like my app at UBC will be tossed, if not for anything else, for my 6VR. So, I figure I'll start considering what I'll be doing next year. I'll probably make an mdapps page when I start. However, I think I can be a bit more selective next year with where I apply since I have my MCAT score now. No more Ottawa or Queen's for sure.

May 16/07 - Acceptance e-mail from UBC. This came as a total shock for me. I am extremely excited to be moving to a new city, especially beautiful Vancouver. I still can't believe just how much of a roller coaster year this has been.

    Aug 27/07 - Orientations starts! :)

    UBC Interview

Vancouver is the shit! It rained most of the weekend, but it wasn't that bad. Compared to Winnipeg, the weather is waaay better. The Associate Deans' Information Session was actually pretty informative. I had known most of the material before, but getting some more information from the faculty was better - it really helped me finalize exactly where I was going to rank the different sites.

The Wine and Cheese was alright as well. I'm glad they didn't pressure us to be there right at 8:30pm, so I was able to just stroll in and stroll out when I felt like it.

The school itself is good. The campus is big, beautiful, and busy. The Life Sciences Centre is really new and the technology the faculty uses for education is relatively new as well. I wasn't impressed by how they didn't really sell the strong points of the faculty, but they did spend some time trying to tell us the importance of making our site preferences.

Overall, the students at the school itself weren't as impressive as I thought they would be. The other applicants I met, though, were really nice and really easy going...maybe it's the Vancouver air. The med 1s were pretty regular students who just want to be doctors...which I guess makes for a collegial group of students. I would consider UBC as one of my top choices, however, should I need to reapply next year, I'd like to investigate UofT (hopefully) and see which is best.
