Brief Profile:
applied mstp OOS. applied md-only in-state. if theres one thing ive realized, its that interviews dont matter....atleast for md/phds or maybe for mds too but i cant attest to that entirely. anyways the reason i say that is because mstp interviews can do one of 2 things: 1) confirm that u actually know ur research and 2) confirm that u dont know shit and ur talk about being a scientist is just limited to whats written on ur application. based on my admissions cycle so far, ive realized that the interviews play a very minimal role. all the adcoms eventually go back to ur primary app and look at ur essays (especially ur research essay). i made the mistake of not having all my results written down (which i honestly think would have gotten me more interviews or atleast acceptances) due to political reasons in the lab of not sharing results between people working on the same fu**in project. also i had a summer research experience and altho i mentioned that i was going to participate in this summer program i couldnt write anything about it cuz i applied early in june. altho i mentioned this experience in my secondary apps, i dont think schools cared that much. so in retrospect, what i should have done is wait to submit my primary later so that i could have written that experience down too. ive worked quite hard in college to get where i am today....and to not have a good admissions cycle cuz of all this bs is pretty hard to bear. but such is life and it sux so ill have to play along with this game and hope that i can be the best i can be wherever i land up.
Summary of Experience:
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION am i rite? lol but srsly ucla is beautiful. also i was one of the lucky few to also interview at caltech which was also beautiful. curriculum is good and research here is exciting. student body is very friendly and approachable. mstp is very flexible with its students. CON: EXPENSIVE living.
Summary of Experience:
loved the people here. school was very impressive tbh. im glad i applied here. hopefully i get off the waitlist but i doubt it cuz its md only
Summary of Experience:
really wanted to get in here cuz of the crazy basic science research going on. im kinda pissed that i got put on the alternate list. i will obv send them an email expressing my continued interest in the program if i dont get in anywhere else in feb.
Summary of Experience:
fml i was waitlisted. literally worst day ever. like i actually dont understand what the hell is going on. why does my life suuck so much... i just wanna go die rn
Summary of Experience:
honestly wasnt expecting an interview from here. i gave it my best shot. i found the school to be very impressive (curriculum wise and research opps) and mstp students were very warm and friendly. i just gotta really good vibe from this school that i havent really gotten anywhere else ive been. leadership of mstp committee are all former md/phds. from what ive heard, the phd depts are under development and they are condensing it from like 10+ depts to like 5, each with numerous specialties. the school is very receptive to feedback from students and adjusts things accordingly (this applies for just the md part also). i will see what happens in feb and altho i would love to go here, im not expecting anything based on my current track record.
Summary of Experience:
i was very happy from their fast response post-interview. i was impressed by the growth of the school and think that theres good research opps available but honestly im not a fan of the location (its cold and kinda rural). but, to be fair, such a location can allow me to make the most out of my education and help me avoid distractions. i will most likely be attending here unless i get a better offer.
