Summary of Application Experience
4/15 Application cycle is now officially over!
4/06 Well, it's almost final. I've been rejected from UCSF and Stanford. I'm not surprised but am disappointed, especially about UCSF.
3/21 Got an interview invite from Meharry the other day but will be declining. I also recently sent out letters to Penn State, MCW, RFU, and Creighton withdrawing my acceptance. At the moment, I am holding on to just Davis and Georgetown. Also, I should be hearing from Stanford this week. Here's hoping it is good news...wish me luck!
3/8 I just got an acceptance to Davis today and am really really excited!!! I will now be withdrawing from all other schools that I have been accepted to. I'm extremely fortunate :).
I was thinking about going to my interview at OHSU, but thinking about how expensive the school is, there is really no way I would choose if over Davis if I were to be accepted. Besides, I really want to be closer to home. I can't believe I'm going back to California!!
3/4 I am now down to only one more interview at OHSU. It will be so nice to finally finish out the interview season. Then it will just be waiting.
Overall, the application process has gone very well for me. I definitely got interviews at lots of places I did not think I would and many more acceptances that I could have imagined. Although it was a lot of money, I'm glad I played it safe and applied to many schools. Had I gotten an acceptance earlier on, I wouldn't have gone on all of those interviews, but it so happened that the only interviews I had left after I received an acceptance were from West Coast schools, and I definitely wasn't going to pass on those interviews :).
2/17 Received an acceptance from Georgetown through the mail!! However, checked my status on Irvine's page and found out that I got waitlisted. I'm really disappointed because I really liked Irvine and I was really hoping that I would get in. I'm really sad...
2/14 Decided to decline VCU interview invite. Time is just too tight nowadays and I want to use this weekend to prep for Stanford and UCSF instead of going on an interview.
2/7 So, in the past month, I have gotten rejected from Pritzker, UCLA, and Cornell. But, I also got another interview invite from OHSU! I'm super excited about it and am planning to go :). I also got an interview invite from VCU and am debating if I should go to that one - it's pretty close and wouldn't cost me all that much...hmm...
1/9 Got acceptance to RFU right after Christmas!!! Received SLU invite when I came back from vacation but decided to decline the interview. I don't want to waste money and there's no particular reason for me to want to go there over any of the other schools I got accepted to.
Also got accepted to Penn State just the other day!!! At least I know now that I don't totally suck at interviewing so hopefully my CA interviews turn out just as well...here's wishing and hoping and wishing and hoping...
12/19 OMIGOSH!! I came back from my UCD interview this weekend and what was waiting at home for me??? TWO acceptance letters!!! AAAHHH!! It's so nice now not to have to wonder what if I get rejected from all medical schools.
12/11 Another rejection...UCSD. Will I ever get an acceptance :(??? I know that I'm incredibly lucky to be getting so many interviews, but it's still not the same as having at least one acceptance and knowing that I will be attending med school for sure next year...
12/6 I just found out from UT that I was granted a secondary from them but I never got the email - found out when they sent me a reminder so one more secondary to go. Also, received an interview at UCSF and the JMP - I am so shocked and super happy at the same time...never in a million years did I think that I really had a chance!!!! So happy!!!!
12/1 Woohoo!! I am now officially done with all of my secondaries. All 34 of them..sheesh. Just got my last one out tonight just before the deadline. At least now I don't have to worry about writing anymore. Thank goodness. Anyhow, had an NYMC interview this week...it was my most pleasant interview experience so far. My interviewer was awesome. The school is so expensive though!!
11/20 Just received an interview from Georgetown. Interviewed at GW and RFU this past week. GW was awesome and I would love to go there if given the chance (and if no CA school accepts me). RFU was my toughest interview thus far - lots of policy and ethics questions.
11/17 I just got an interview invite from Stanford the other day...am totally amazed since my scores and grades are pretty average and not stellar like the people they normally interview.
11/13 Interview invite from UC Irvine. Woohoo!!! I am super excited!!
11/12 Just interviewed at Creighton this past week. I think it went okay...we will see. Got my Pitt rejection letter in the mail...was expected obviously. Getting ready to go on two interviews this week and hopefully turn in the last of my secondaries.
11/8 Just when I was getting sad about my EVMS rejection and most likely a Pitt rejection, I get an interview invite from MCW and then from Davis. Getting an invite from Davis blew me away and totally made the rejections seem like no biggie :).
11/6 I'm pathetic. I'm still working on secondaries (I know..it's getting reeeally late in the game) and kind of preparing for my interviews. Oh yes, got my first rejection from EVMS over the weekend and my Pitt status page now says that 'correspondence was sent 11/1' which equals another rejection. Probably rejected from MCW also but nothing quite so official yet. Rejections suck big time especially since I don't have an acceptance yet. What a downer, dude.
10/31 Just interviewed at Penn State. I think it went okay - the first interview went a lot better than the second one. My first interviewer told me that I had amazing letters of recommendations so I'm pretty happy about that.
10/19 Received one more interview invite from Rosalind Franklin. Still have 7 secondaries to work on - I'm trying!! All the UCs ones are done at least.
10/15 Still working on secondaries. The UCs one are really holding me back since I am being quite OCD about them. I hope it pays off...
10/4 Got two more interview invites. Awesome!! Not so awesome = still working on secondaries.
9/23 Got my first interview invite! And am still plugging along on the secondaries :(.
9/4 Why is it so hard to write some of these essays :(????
8/15 Verified!!
7/19 FINALLY turned in my primary application - I had to go through several revisions of my PS before I was happy with it. All of my transcripts are in so I'm in line for review. Also, two LORs in, a few more to go :p.
6/8 Currently working on asking for LORs - how painful.
5/23 I'm finally applying to medical school this year! I'm still working on my PS and my list of schools to apply to. I'm giving myself a deadline of early July to turn in my primary application.
