Summary of Application Experience
Forget school statistics, don't ever give up, and stick to your ambitions!!! You never know who will accept you if you don't apply. It costs a few thousand for all these colleges but that 1 acceptance letter is worth so much more. After the decisions I spoke with the interviewers and they said despite bad mcat scores and a few poor course choices in college, I aced the interview.
being a non traditional student (ex: older)there was multiple paperwork problems. I had to write extra essays with my application stating why I've been out of school so long, no science committee letters, lapse in education...etc. my best advice is to compile a folder with all your applications and jot down numbers, dates, times, who you called, what they said, when you sent what...etc. I am sure with thousands of applications it could be easy to over look either did not look extra attachments, paperwork, letters and such. keeping that detailed records prevented me from having to resend tons of recommendations, letters, certifications, licenses...etc. because I could pinpoint who said what and when. well at least to most schools!
Always keep a check on your applications. Sometimes the secretaries don't forward the app to the committe because they 'feel' something is missing when in fact it's just written in a different format. I had a school hold my app because they were confused as to why there is an attachment for work experience. The more they contact you and request an explaination, the longer things sit in someone's file cabinet.
To all those with a desire to be a physician but hindered by a low score, don't give up, it can be done!
