Summary of Application Experience
The application process can be frustrating and exhausting at times. I applied to over thirty schools, from which I received 5 interview offers and two acceptances. My advice to fellow Californian med school applicants: 1) Choose your schools wisely. I cannot stress this enough. Try not to pick a school based solely upon numbers. Request a brochure from EACH school that you are interested in and apply only to those schools that you can see yourself attending. Try to visit the school if at all possible. 2) Leave ample time for the application process. You will have to devote a large percentage of your time to filling out secondary applications and travelling to interviews. Think of each of your applications as essays in an English class. You will have to spend some time perfecting them. Also, have a friend look over each application to check for mistakes and to proofread your essays. That said, don't let med school applications consume your life. Be confident that you will be successful and try to enjoy your last year before medical school.
