    Summary of Application Experience

My second time applying. First time I was VERY (let me say VERY VERY) late, both from late MCAT and from late LORs getting out, so my files werent' complete until mid-late November. This time I'm applying early. AMCAS submitted and verified by 6/15. Secondaries out the door within two days. I'm really hoping for something good this time around.

8/3/05 - While I have a max two day turn around for my secondaries, one of my LOR writers hasn't sent a single letter yet. GRRRRR! Got Albany this afternoon, submitted within the hour. Just waiting for Drexel and CU now...

8/9/05 - Got Drexel; still waiting for CU. STILL no LOR from my pre-med advisor!!! I know it's written... my other LOR writers sent out their letters within three days.

8/23 - FINALLY got CU, and their website is totally messed up. Ah, well. Submitted and done. Got DMUCOM invite today for 9/22! My first! Yay!

8/31 - Most everywhere is complete; Albany and MCW still say they don't have one of my LORs. Hmm. UNECOM and MSUCOM invite today. UNECOM gives me a date of 9/28; MSUCOM lets me choose from 3 different weeks - they do online scheduling. Still no word from MD schools other than those who have sent me 'you're complete' emails.

9/2 - What a great week! Got VCU invite today - will interview 9/26. Chose 10/25 for MSUCOM.

9/6 - KCOM apparently only looks at the bottom numbers. Graduating with a 3.5+ GPA and a 29MCAT doesn't overcome bad grades from 20 years ago for them. Their loss!

10/1 - Back from a string of 3 interviews. DMU was weird - very strange interview. They kept staring at me with blank faces no matter what I said; very out of character with the rest of the day. The students were SO friendly and the interview panel soooo cold. DMU was almost #1 on my list - after the interview experience it went to near last. I ended up 'on the alternate list'. Happy if I get to go, not crushed if I don't. UNECOM, on the other hand was last - and after the interview day went to near the top. VCU was totally awesome. I would truly love to go to VCU.

10/6 - UNECOM acceptance today! :) Yay! Also, news that I'm in the 'hold for further action' pile at VCU (in other words, in the 'possible' pile, and not rejected after the interview) - good news all around! YIPPEE! If no other acceptances come my way, I'm STILL gonna be a doctor... WOOHOOO!!

10/19 - Rejected from MCW today. Oh, well. Still on hold for VCU. No word from my state school - I'm starting to feel unloved from the place I've been sending my tax dollars. :(

11/5 - Rejected from Albany this past week. Goes right along with having the flu.

11/30 - Hmm. Just got invite for PCOM-Ga. They want to see me on 12/13. I'll have to think about going to this one.

12/8 - withdrew from PCOM. My husband just doesn't feel really good about Atlanta, and there's more than just me to think of here. Sent in a $500 deposit to UNECOM, and counting down the days to VCU's next decision date.

12/15 - well, nothing from VCU. On hold for the NEXT decision date. And still being ignored by my state school. *sigh*.

1/16 - another month gone by with no word from any other med school. CU is really startin' to piss me off at this point. I even rooted for the NE Patriots in protest of CU's lack of communication. NE lost - I hope that's not an omen. But at this point I'm reserving places for the rejection letters that I'm sure will be coming my way soon. :(

2/1 - Well, the rejection letters have started pouring in. Drexel sent me a 'pre-interview hold' email (which I interpreted as 'we're too used-car-salesman-like to actually say NO, and we think this is a much nicer way to string you along'). Vermont sent me a very curt rejection letter that made me feel like I don't deserve to breathe, and CU send me an email rejection. EMAIL rejection. My own state school shows me no love. Jerks. I'm kindof pissed about this one. I mean, really, WTF? Screened secondary and interview from VCU but not even an interview from my own state school?!?! Obviously not the place for me .. I don't usually judge people on looks alone, but CU doesn't even bother to read the whole application to get a look at all. They just look at the bottom line numbers (i.e. your shoes) and judge you from that. Jerks.

Aaaaahh.. Ok. I feel better now. Now c'mon VCU!!!

3/8 - It's been a while. Nothing new. Sent a letter of reconsideration to CU, no reply. No acknowledgement, even. I take that back - after I sent the reconsideration letter, my application page at CU was changed to say 'rejected'. I think it was just coincidental timing rather than a slap in the face.

Vermont, however... Vermont definitely slapped me. They sent me a SECOND rejection letter, even more curt than the first one. Wow. What an insult. Even the girls in the 'popular' clique in high school weren't that mean.

SO. Still waiting on VCU. Really really hoping for VCU. 12 more days (or so) until their decision date.

3/21 - VCU decision date: waitlisted. Well, not rejected, so that's a good sign. Still praying for this one. Funny, when I started this process my top choices were (in no particular order) DMU, VCU, and CU. DMU dropped off that list right quick after the interview. As in on the drive home. UNE quickly took DMU's place after my interview there - I really liked that place. VCU was ALWAYS at the top of the pile, and is still there. It's gonna hurt if I don't get accepted at VCU... more than getting rejected by Colorado pre-interview (I always liked VCU better, CU was on the list 'cuz it was my state school). We'll see what the future brings. hope hope hope!!!!!

5/2 - Wow. Nothing happening lately. But yesterday Temple FINALLY rejected me. Big shocker there. Y'know, for the amount of money we pay these folks to apply, the very LEAST they could do is tell us we've been rejected in a timely fashion, and with a reason attached to it. In the meantime, still on the waitlist for VCU (and still hoping for a really wonderful birthday present there), and if that doesn't pan out I'm still excited about UNE.
