Brief Profile:
I'm a non traditional applicant. Majored in History during college with an overall gpa of 3.12. Decided I want to be a doctor after some OR observations and started my own post bac program. 41 credits of science As later, and I am ready to apply. Took August MCAT which got me waitlisted at two schools that would have taken me outright.
Other stuff: -Compelling personal statement that defends my weak GPA, shows I've changed, and doesn't end with 'stand shoulder to shoulder with heroes...' -Four HOT letters of rec. 'one of the dozen best students I've had in 20 years as a prof.' 'Easily the most impressive student volunteer I have ever worked with here at Yale.' etc... -Two years full-time orthopedics research at Yale SOM (one volunteer, one paid) -OR observations, shadowed endocrinologist, pushed book cart through hospital wards -Two seasons as a head varsity high school soccer coach, including citations for excellence -Two years working retail sales in a poor neighborhood -Four years part-time receptionist and surgical assistant at derm clinic -Club Rugby -Radio Show DJ -Sailing -Four years DIII soccer and Two years DIII Track -Guitar -Semester internship at the Smithsonian American History Museum -Started Grandma's List charity org
