Summary of Application Experience
I tried turning in my stuff early, but time went by so fast and before I knew it, my rec letters hadn't been compiled and it was almost October. Do it NOW, not tomorrow, because tomorrow will turn into October. Trust me.
I'll admit, my PS was a piece of crap. It wasn't that I didn't put any thought into it, I was just kind of nervous to write it so it came out really rigid and dead. If I had some advice, I'd say to try writing several essays, free-form, not worrying about sending it in or having the correct grammar or anything. Just write what flows, and that will at least get you started with the spark of life and the themes that mine so cripplingly lacked.
That said, the TCOM admissions director called me in during my interview and said I had one of the best few secondary 'mini-essays' she'd read all season, and that was because I drew a personal analogy to osteopathic medicine. She told me she hates it when someone goes onto aoa.net and paraphrases the osteopathic principles, but instead looks for people who have internalized it into what it means for them.
Lets see, what else? My best interview was the one I thought I did the worst at. I was completely honest and open about all answers, including saying that my worst quality is procrastination, and that I feel no remorse for making a 'C' in organic I, then was promptly accepted. At Houston (my first interview) I tried telling them what I thought they wanted to hear and now I'm waitlisted. Go figure!
Also, don't read into any speculation or conspiracy theories on SDN regarding admissions statuses, because no one knows and you'll just end up getting all worked up over nothing.
I took a year off to work after school, and it has enticed me to go back to school more than anything else. My job is so boring and unfulfilling!
