Summary of Application Experience
Well, I have a long history with medical school, being accepted two years ago to UT Houston then withdrawing acceptance before classes started. I've since worked for 2 years in medical environment and decided to re-apply. My MCATS aren't great, the first one being better than the second. Taking the August MCAT was a bad idea, my application didn't get processed through TMDSAS until mid-October although I was done with it by August.
I'd say to anyone out of school longer than a year -- take some classes esp in Organic Chem before re-taking the MCAT if you've been out of school for a while. I haven't heard from any UT schools, and as I am a TX resident that lowers my chances considerably. But I loved TX A&M when I interviewed, the environment and people were so friendly. UNT was nice too, but the DO route is not MD and I've had two friends in DO school tell me to go for MD because it's easier to get work and at higher pay scale for MD than for DO although they both can do just the same in patient care.
