Interview Impressions
Albert Einstein College of Medicine
I chose to take the bus to NYC and therefore got in to NYC around midnight. At that point, being a naïve kid from suburbia, I had to figure out their transit system. Fortunately some kind souls led me to the subway I needed and I got to my hotel around 2 AM. Not my best idea for sure. The confusion was even worse in the morning when I had to take the bus to Einstein. I spent a good 30 minutes going between buses trying to figure out which to board. So if you plan on using the transit system and aren’t from a large city, you definitely should consider leaving early to accommodate that delay.

Anyway, on to the Bronx. I’ll be honest. A good portion seemed sketch, but that could be partly the 2 AM effect. But once I got to the area around Einstein, it was like I entered a whole new city. Green spaces. Gorgeous buildings. Definitely a nice place to live. Especially since rent can be around $500 a month WITH utilities.

Throughout the interview day, the admissions office was quite helpful (and one of the women had a fantastic accent). They stored luggage during the day and provided so many directions I wasn’t sure how they were all applicable.

My interview was at Montefiore hospital so I had to take the shuttle. But in doing so, I met two current med students who recognized the dazed and confused look on my face and helped me navigate to my interview. They also answered quite a few questions for me, which was unexpected and nice. The interview itself was extremely relaxed. Typical interview questions. My interview asked very specific questions, which impressed me, because it meant that she read my application closely. Overall, it lasted about 50 minutes and she walked me to the shuttle. She said I did very well so hopefully that is a good sign!

After the interview, current med students gave a tour of the campus and provided us lunch. And that was the day. Overall, I just had a giddy attitude all day. The students are so incredibly nice and the students I interviewed with are people I can envision being classmates with. There is such a strong support network that makes me confident I could integrate into the community. Overall, I left incredibly impressed. I see very few downsides to attending school here. Hopefully I hear good news!

Sample In the Area Email
Dear X School of Medicine Office of Admissions,
I am currently scheduled to be in the X area for an interview from Date 1 to Date 2.
I understand that you only interview a limited number of qualified applicants, and that many of the early interview spots may be already filled. However, if I am fortunate enough to currently be under consideration for an interview at the X School, I was wondering if it would be possible to schedule it in that general time frame to avoid the cost of multiple flights to the area, as well as to minimize time spent away from school.
I realize that this is relatively short notice and if I am not able to interview at this time, if necessary, I would be happy to travel to X in the future.
Thank you for your help and consideration.
Sincerely,

Applied, Withdrew
