    Summary of Application Experience

    AMCAS Submitted: 7/4/13
    AMCAS Verified: 8/19/13

Took the MCAT twice and improved by 8 points the second time around. I attribute this to the post-bac and forming better study habits.

    Extracurricular Activities:
ESL Tutor for 1 year during undergrad
High School Mentor for 3 years during post-bac
Shadowing experiences: Family Medicine, Surgery, Gastroenterology, & Radiology for a one summer during undergrad
Quality Assurance in the Operating Room for one summer during undergrad
2 years of research experience combined in the following areas: ER department, Women's Health, Translational Medicine, and Sleep Medicine after post-bac
Community health volunteer in lower income area for 3 years during post-bac
Certifications/Skills: Phlebotomy, blood processing, database creation, etc.
Dancer for 10 years from high school to the present

This application cycle was long and expensive, but well worth it. I ended up getting a total of 6 interview invitations, went to 4 interviews, and got accepted to two schools, and waitlisted for one. Considering my low gpa from undergrad I would say this was an amazing turn out. Also, I spent a lot of time strategizing in order to produce such a successful outcome.

    Strengths in my application:
    - Did a part-time post-bac for two years at Penn to prove I could handle the coursework
    - Volunteered and did research during my time in the post-bac
    - Spent a lot of time on my personal statement (and I mean allloooooot of time making sure it was perfect)
    - Applied somewhat early
    - Spent 2 weeks turning in practically all of my secondaries. Made an excel spreadsheet to keep track of all the schools, and filled out the ones that were both easy/and easier schools to get into.
    - Applied to 45 schools
    - Killed the interview (I am really good at interviewing and was confident I could sell myself pretty well)
    - Committee letter from Penn, and great recommendations from my employers

    - A less than stellar MCAT and gpa, but I was able to overcome this by showing a vast improvement from my previous MCAT score and sgpa
    - Did not have a state school :( because my state school no longer considered me a resident, and I failed to establish residency any where else
