Brief Profile:
Volunteer: 150 hrs. Hospice Volunteering (during freshman and junior year) 120 hours taking notes, tutoring, and scribing for blind and other disabled students. 15 hours teaching as a swim coach for toddlers with ASD.
Academic ECs: Anatomy T.A. Job (made my own lectures and lectured to a group) and Learning Resources Center Tutor (tutored O-chem, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Physiology, and Anatomy).
Work Experience:
Radiology Case Assistant: Sorted out radiology cases various residents sent me, uploaded pictures, took out any pt. info, sorted by anatomy, pathology, etc. BUT I ONLY DID IT FOR A SEMESTER because my grades were really dropping and I wasn't mature enough (bit too much to chew sophomore 1st semester and it's why I don't have a 3.95 GPA).
KMart (1 summer-normal cashier+departmental-my first actual job)
Research: Major Weakness in Application. Getting informed consent for an epidemiological study. I did do a bit of research in a neurological lab using MatLab to analyze fMRIs but I didn't follow through with anything and left prematurely.
Shadowing: 30 hrs. Urologist D.O 20 hrs. Plastics and Hand Surgeon, M.D 15 hrs. Cardiologist, M.D. 15 hrs. Oncologist/Hematologist M.D.
Other: Served as a intern for a congressman in the inner-city of Detroit often going out of district to help caseworkers and other disadvantaged. It was a surprisingly insightful experience and I did this because I wanted to gain an insight the political system and how our government worked. I can actually link it to my interest in medicine in a unique way ***I actually want to emphasize this quite a bit when I explain why I'm choosing medicine***
