Summary of Application Experience
All secondary applications complete during the month of July. Numbers at the end of description are post-interview acceptance rates from this reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/premed/comments/4zjzpj/i_got_access_to_the_us_news_and_world_report_with/. I use them to assess my chances. Some information changed for anonymity.
Summary of Experience:
II in August. Interview in October. School is very new, so the facilities are not as great as some top schools. The interview day was incredibly informative, but I felt very little connection with the interviewers. 35%
Summary of Experience:
II in August. Interview in September. Really great place. In NYC but not downtown like NYU, so you get a bit of peace. Emphasis on freedom. A lot of waiting and talking to other interviewees. I would not be surprised if they observed how you interact with other students during the downtime, as there was just one interview and hours of downtime. 28%
Summary of Experience:
II in September. Interview in October. Stark contrast to UCSF. Although UCSF is no undergraduate, DukeMed is right next to the undergrad campus. Very nice place. Duke is pretty much in a forest. I seemed to have been lucky with my MMI as I thought it was very chill. 34%
Summary of Experience:
II in September. Interview in October. Very wealthy school, which is apparent from the first moment you step into the building. The school has an incredible list of things to offer, and has a fairly progressive curriculum. Interviews quickly got to the point and were very informative. 39%
Summary of Experience:
Put on hold until March in November. II in August. Interview in September. My first non-MMI; thought it was completely stress-free. Was a little concerned about the environment here before the interview, but the interview made it very clear what a wonderful place this is. Can only say good things about the school and location! 75%
Summary of Experience:
Rejected in December. II in September. Interview in October. I really like that it's a graduate school without a collegiate community. It seems somewhat more cohesive. The interview day was long but there was almost no waiting involved - I was either listening to the dean speak, or observing a class, or eating lunch, or travelling to my interview, or interviewing. The day was less about knowing the other interviewees and more about exploring the school. Stark contrast to Columbia. 65%
II in July. Interview in August. First interview, people were incredible. The atmosphere completely took away all my nerves for the interview. Can only say good things about this school. I was amongst the first ten interviewees to interview at the school for this application cycle. 39%
II in September. Interview in October. Emphasis on the nearby hospitals, because CW is the only medical school in the city. Seems like there would be a lot of opportunities once clinical rotations start up. Interviewers were both very friendly! 49%
II in July. Interview in September. The school is trying to emphasize leadership. Great community, very similar to my undergraduate school community. 72%
Summary of Experience:
ACCEPTED! First school of the cycle, and really all that I'm hoping for! Wow, I'm so happy! Thank you for extending the offer. The school is so beautiful, and the students are passionate.
II in August. Interview in September. Interviewer was very friendly, and communicated with me as if I had already been accepted (which isn't true, obviously). The aesthetics of the place is just amazing and I like the focus on clinical training. Really impressed with the simulation center. 55%
