Brief Profile:
Under construction still...but briefly
I got my start at community college then transferred to one of the top 3 UCs
ccGPA 4.0 UC GPA 3.97
3.5 years of volunteering in a hospital setting part time job all the way through cc (~16hrs/week) TA for upper division biology class for one quarter 100hrs of clinical research Grew up playing an instrument Plenty of scholastic awards (honor rolls/deans lists/department awards/etc) Leadership positions in my fraternity, and a local ACS fundraiser Phi Beta Kappa inductee before graduation
Going on 3 years full time translational oncology research. Unfortunately getting 2 pubs out right before I leave the lab and go off to school. Im pretty sure if I had at least one publication out and accepted before I submitted my primary in June my cycle would have gone a lot differently.

Definitely, definitely, definitely take the time to have your personal statement professionally reviewed. Really helped me hone my messaging.
White tower elitists do look down on you for starting at community college. Its an unfortunate reality. Definitely how my PI (former admissions officer to a top school) made me feel. Just have to work harder and prove yourself.
****APPLY BROADLY AND EARLY IF YOURE COMING FROM CC****
