Brief Profile:
Double Major: Biology and a humanities AMCAS verified 7/17, committee packet submitted 8/15. Secondaries submitted between July - early September.
I have definitely realized that I applied too top heavy and to too few schools, especially since I'm an unimpressive CA resident with weak ECs. If I have to reapply next year, I will definitely do things differently :) I tried to apply early, but alas my committee didn't send my letter packet out until mid-August.
ECs - so basically I'm an average (or slightly below) cookie-cutter applicant in this regard... Leader for a summer, 4-day pre-orientation program (3 different years) Two semesters volunteering at a medical center (4-5 hours/week) Two semesters of research at my home university 6-7 weeks of summer research abroad (bench research) Some shadowing (~15 hours) Senior honors thesis (won a department award for "best thesis")
Gap year activities: Volunteering at a local hospital (4 hours/week) Tutoring elementary school kids in reading (2 hours/week) Teaching myself some stuff and relaxing (except for the whole application anxiety part...) I'm hoping to do some traveling once this cycle is settled.
