Of the usual I've done the hospital volunteering (100 hours) and a few research internships as an undergraduate. I have also participated in several outreach programs for underserved communities, primarily involving tutoring young children and ESL education for adult immigrants. I worked at a medical diagnostic company after graduation for two years before moving to Boston to get my Masters in Medical Sciences (BU post-bac). I am now back at that same diagnostic company for the next year while I finish up my Masters thesis and apply to med school.

Summary of Application Experience
6/20/05: Well, I decided that I'm an east coast girl after all and withdrew from UCI today. I chose my first love in the end rather than having a school choose me. I'm ecstatic to have finalized this decision before heading off on vacation. To quote Will Hunting, 'Let the healing begin!'
5/27/05: WOOHOO! Just got an e-mail from Tufts stating that my acceptance letter was dropped in the mail today! I feel the most enormous amount of relief that I have the opportunity to start med school with a clean slate! Too bad BU just cashed my $500 check. Oh well!
5/11/05: Joined the Tufts delayed decision applicant frenzy on SDN so decided to harrass the admissions office before sending BU my non-refundable 500 bucks. Another waitlist. Bye-bye digital camera money.
4/19/05: Finally have my answers from all schools. Not all difinitive. The waitlist letters are almost worse than the rejections as I'll probably be waiting until June for a concrete 'yes' or 'no' from these schools. Come on UCI!!!
3/11/05: Well, it looks like I got my wish. The phone call from Dr. Aguilera @ Drew officially gives me a chance to stay in California for med school. Unfortunately, I can't get myself to take the risk of poor clinical training. Grrrrrrrr!
2/5/05: Finally done with interviews and just hanging out in med school pergatory with the rest of 'em. Felt good to decline RF's interview invite after they teased me back in December. Had to cancel Drexel as well. That one felt sort of strange, as if I was closing a door without knowing what was on the other side. But hey, if I have to leave Cali I'd rather go to my home away from home in Boston.
1/12/05: I just returned from my vacation abroad and recieved a whole mix of news. Some rejections, one interview, and my first acceptance from BU! I'm now proof of two things: reapplicants CAN gain admission, and post-bac programs work!
12/28/04: Just got an interview invite from Drew/UCLA! I'm out of the country until Jan 11th so they cut it close for me but at least it's close by. Tufts sent me a delayed decision...but they express a lot of hope in their kind letter so I'm not too discouraged.
12/6/04: Just got back from my UCI interview to find a Rosalind Franklin interview invite. Today was a good day :) P.S. - Called RF and found out the invite was a mistake...hilarious!!!
12/1/04: And another waitlist....Albany.
11/29/04: My chances of staying in-state are dwindling by the day. Looks like Stanford is my only shot up in the bay but I'm definately not holding my breath on that one! UCI is my top choice, interviewing there on 12/6 so I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed!!!
11/16/04: So far had a decent amount of interviews but the waiting to hear back is torture! Did get the 'waitlist' letter at EVMS but the rest are still keeping me in suspense. Hopefully will recieve a nice Xmas present though :)
