Summary of Experience:
I was originally interested in this school due to the emphasis they placed on research, their new facilities and curriculum, and their location. This was my second interview invitation and completely caught me off guard. I had actually hesitated in submitting the secondary because I thought I had little to no shot as an out of state applicant with average stats.
This was my first interview and I thought it went very well. The format was MMI and I actually enjoyed it a lot. Be sure to read up on ethical dilemmas and think hard about tough situations that doctors might find themselves in. Roanoke is a great city and one that I would love to attend medical school in. The facilities are brand new and the whole community seems to want its students to succeed.
Summary of Experience:
Hofstra was another one of the schools that I was very interested in at the beginning of my application cycle. I liked the school\'s location, diversity, curriculum, and its innovative perspective on medical education. I was initially very excited about receiving an interview invitation from them...until I realized that they only accept approximately 8% of applicants that they interview.
My interviews were both with faculty and both went incredibly average. We talked about my interest in the school, my interest in medicine, and a few other things on my AMCAS. The location and opportunities at the school did not cease to impress me and I\'m really hoping that I eventually get accepted. Definitely not holding my breath with the low acceptance rate though.
Summary of Experience:
GW was my #1 going into this application cycle and still remains very high on my list. I love the location of the school, its global health and policy opportunities, and have heard nothing but great things from faculty and current students. GW was my first interview invitation.
I had mixed feelings about the interview. The school did not let me down during the tour and all of the students interviewing with me seemed pretty cool. My first interview went pretty bad. The interviewer was about 20 minutes late and rushed me into a small cubicle. She seemed to be blowing through all of her questions to make up for time and didn\'t actually seem all that interested in me and my experiences. She kept trying to direct me to talk about community health (the area which she is in) even though my focus is more on global health. However, my second interview (with a student) went amazing. He was very down to earth and the interview itself was very conversational and relaxed. I left with mixed impressions on how I fared as a whole between the 2 interviews but am hoping for the best.
Extremely disappointed with the alternate list email. Hoping that I eventually accepted.
Summary of Experience:
USUHS was in my top 5 going into this application cycle. Unfortunately the secondary application could not be completed online, but they received all of my materials within a few days. I thought I wrote a very good essay and my scores were competitive for the school.
The interview day was very relaxed and they did an amazing job of making sure everyone felt welcomed. We were provided breakfast and seated in a large lecture/seminar room and briefed about military medicine, USUHS, and the admissions process. Lunch was provided (and a very good lunch at that), and we had the opportunity to tour the school with a student guide. My guide was an extremely friendly first year who had nothing but good things to say about the school. My interviews themselves were about 30-40 minutes each, one with a fourth year student and one with a physician/professor. The interviews were both very conversational, focusing on why I wanted to pursue a career in military medicine and what experiences have led me to that decision. I even had a 15 minute conversation with the student about relaxing during medical school and working out. Overall it was a great experience and left me very interested in the school.
I got the call from Captain Calloway on January 24th, 2012 while at work. I could not be more excited!! This is my first medical school acceptance =)
