  • Brief Profile: I am a non-traditional student. After finishing my MA, I worked as an archaeologist on the west coast for 10+ years before deciding that I wanted to go into medicine. I packed up a Penske truck and moved 3000+ miles to Boston to attend a post-bac program at a well-known university. Since moving to Boston, my wife gave birth to our son and we have a daughter due in March. I typically work around 50 hours a week, attend night-time post-bac classes, and volunteer when I have the time.

    Summary of Experience
200+ hours volunteering in the hematology department and the emergency department at Brigham and Women\'s Hospital

600+ hours of experience registering patients in an emergency department

6+ years of social science research (physical anthropology and archaeology)

3 years of teaching college level classes

2 years of working in a basic medical science research lab

1 year of running a dental residency and graduate education program

    Summary of Application Experience

I applied late because I needed the time to look over the MCAT materials and get ready for \"the test\". That\'s put me at a huge disadvantage because of rolling admissions. My low undergraduate GPA from 10+ years ago isn\'t helping me either.

I\'m glad I have an acceptance now, because I was real concerned that I wouldn\'t land anywhere. I was really hoping for Minnesota and Wisconsin to at least grant me an interview, since I have such deep and long running ties to both institutions, but no such luck.
