2008 - Graduated HS, started at private university in NY. 2009 - Transferred to alma mater as a Biochemistry major, Medicine and Society minor. Started working as a tutor. Pharm tech certified. 2010 - Started working at current lab with the intention of looking into a PharmD/PhD. Changed my mind, started looking into MD/PhD. Pledged a sorority, started working on getting leadership positions. 2011 - Shadowed and did a semester long internship at the Pediatrics editorial office. Studied for the MCAT January to April, took the test in April. Submitted apps late June, verified early July. Started getting invitations late July/early August. I applied both MD and MD/PhD to all of the Texas schools, except for Baylor.
Our sorority does a lot of service events which I took a part in: Texas 5K, Run for Recovery, Children\'s Museum, PCOS Fun Run, Turkey Trot, our annual SAFE Week (Stop Abuse in Family Environments).
4 hours a month since February 2010. Painting, drawing. Nothing special.
Applying MD/PhD and MD only in Texas
You have to submit both AMCAS and TMDSAS. Next year, all MD/PhD programs will be through AMCAS, but you still have to \'check off\' the MD/PhD box in TMDSAS.
BCM will only let you apply to MD/PhD or MD only. You cannot apply to both (whoops..). The MD/PhD programs I was invited to: TCOM, A&M, UTHSCSA, UTMB, UTH.
TCOM - Extra interview during your interview day. Coordinated through the medical school only. DO/PhD decisions are made after the Match. A&M - Additional day of interviews before your MD interview day. I was originally scheduled for MD only, but they rescheduled me once the MD/PhD committee invited me for an interview. The program coordinates with the medical school. Finally heard back in May... lol. UTHSCSA - Invited for MD only and MD/PhD within a day of each other, with the MD/PhD interview the day after the MD only interview. Program coordinates with the medical school. I was also able to attend the yearly MD/PhD retreat, which was really fantastic. Decisions came out early January. UTMB - Invited for MD/PhD only. No invite for MD only. The MD/PhD program interviews are in lieu of the MD only interviews. The program starts interviewing in October. Decisions came out in late January. UT-H - Invited for both MD only and MD/PhD. MD was in September, MD/PhD in December. The MD/PhD program has four interview days, starting in October. Decisions came out in January.
