Summary of Application Experience
Reapplicant and applying for Fall 2014. Lets see how it goes the second time around. MCAT: scheduled for July ( PS I'm coming for you, you're not getting me this time >:( ) GPA: Currently in postbac program for undergraduate grade repair. Sitting at a 4.0 so far lets see if I can continue
Update 7/29/13: While I wait for my MCAT score, might as well put in the list of the schools I wish to apply to. Might change depending on score. While waiting for verification, I've only applied to one school.
Update 8/27/13: Got my MCAT score back, was not ideal. Finally conquered the PS only to have VR stab me in the back. This test can go die in a fire.
Update 9/16/13: Still waiting on verification. Wishing I had taken the MCAT sooner, but such is life.
Update 10/13/13: So. Many. Secondaries :/ Trying to get them turned around as quickly as possible. Last application, I was incredibly dumb and waited to near the deadlines for about half of the secondaries I received. Won't be happening this time.
Update 10/15/13: Made the list reflect where I actually applied.
Update 10/18/13: First rejection, UC Irvine pre secondary. This one hurts.
Update 10/25/13: WOOT!!! First Interview Invite to USC!! Totally makes up for the Irvine rejection.
Update 11/1/13: Interview invite to Drew/UCLA. California Love indeed!!
Update 11/6/13: Interview invite to Carver!! Going to do some traveling finally. This season couldn't be going any better.
Update: 11/14/13: First pre interview rejection from Cooper ;_;
Update: 11/29/13: After a couple of rejections (Boston ;_;) got some love from Davis, Invited :) Excited to go back up North.
Update 12/10/13: So many rejections, why doesn't anybody love me ;_; And in my rejection induced hysteria, I might have added another school to my list :p
Update 12/21/13: Lots of rejections :( but I did attend my Iowa interview so its not all bad. :) Got lots of updates to send to schools while they are on break. Please don't reject me ;_;
Update 1/13/14: New Year and I totally procrastinated on my update letter and it may have cost me an invite to Einstein. I most likely might still have been rejected, but you never know. Also had my interview at Drew (my first MMI) and it went quite well. Met some familiar faces and I'm just as in love with the program as I was when I interviewed two years ago. I hope they love me back.
Update 1/22/2014: Interview at USC today. OMG simply amazing, I don't know if it was the great weather (seriously, its been awesome), the cool interviewees I met, the great lunch ( I've heard USCs lunch was great, now I know why), LA County Hospital (which is a HUGE draw to the school), or my awesome interviewers (both student and faculty) but I was super, duper, uber impressed by Keck. It has shot up my list and even with its high tuition I would still feel like its worth it. Maybe I should wait a few days to see if the love is still there but I can still see myself loving this school. I hope they love me back.
Update 1/27/2014: Just when I thought I was gonna fall in love USC, David Geffen UCLA had to come flying in and offered me an interview invite! AAAHHHHH!!! I don't even care about the MCW rejection letter I got today, this season is going great.
Update 2/16/2014: UC Davis interview attended and now another school has shot up to the top of my list. I keep falling in love with every new school I interview. UC Davis' focus on the community is amazing and it permeates throughout the whole interview day. The students were probably the happiest I've seen on the trail and that really shows what type of school Davis is as well as the students they accept are. The meeting with the dean was fantastic and I wish other schools would do something similar because it made me feel as if the school really, truly cares about the type of applicants it sees during the interview day. As for Davis' MMI, I was really scared going into the interview because I've heard how intense it was, but after going through it the MMI isn't so bad after all. It was really fun in fact and I can see why more schools are choosing to go with that format. Kinda bummed I didn't get to tour any of the 8(!!) student run clinics, I'll just have to hope UC Davis accepts me so I can check them out on a revisit.
Update 2/26/14: Interviewed at David Geffen UCLA today and OMG there was a reason this school has always been a dream of mine. Everything about UCLA from the Ronald Reagan Med Center to the Student Lounge area just exudes greatness. I also cannot believe how much free time these students have (i mean 2 hours of lecture a day!?!? what is this madness) but it doesn't mean that the students become lazy as the students at Geffen are among the best out there. There's so many things to do there and the students are involved in some amazing stuff. They're changing the clinical year grading system to H/HP/P/F and I understand why they're doing it but i'm still not sure how I feel about it quite yet. I didn't get the sense that there's any competition amongst the students ( I mean there's annual post block testing trips that the students take part in, so they can't be all bad) The MMI was fun, not as intense as others I've been on but still fun. There was this survey I did as well that was like the ones you take when applying for retail jobs but it was after the MMI. I don't know how long I'll be waiting for Geffen, but I really hope they accept me because I'll need some good news after my USC Waitlist ;__; that Geffen Scholarship would also be very nice too.
Update 2/28/14: Its been a long time coming, but today I can finally say I'M GONNA BE A DOCTOR!!!! Accepted to UC Davis!!!!! :D :D :D AAAAAHHHHHHALFHJDFJKSLDG!!!! Been jumping up and down all day, greatest phone call ever!!!
Update 3/12/14: Rejected from Iowa today. Doesn't feel that bad considering I most likely wouldn't have chosen it over Davis but it still stings a bit.
Update 5/29/14: OMG OMG OMG Scholarship offer from UC Davis!! This is absolutely amazing I can't believe it. Surely they must've meant some other person.
