Brief Profile:
Decided to become a doctor after serving 6 years as a Naval officer. I had three years left on my service obligation, so it was really no big deal to spend two of them doing pre-reqs at night and another year applying to med school. The plan is to let Uncle Sam bankroll my schooling and to be a Navy physician. I was initially worried about by chances, considering my sub-par GPA, but it all worked out.

Summary of Application Experience
I got my applications out there kind of late, but I like to look at the bright side of things. And the bright side of a late application is less time spent pining away while waiting to hear back from schools.

Summary of Experience:
Crazy long secondary. I decided not to submit it since the school was low on my list.
Summary of Experience:
I submitted the AMCAS to beat the deadline, but ultimately did not submit a secondary because I don\'t have the biochemistry pre-req.
Summary of Experience:
They sent me a brochure, which definitely peaked my interest and first got me even thinking about applying to schools in Manhattan. Unfortunately, I didn\'t have my recommendation letters in time for the secondary app deadline. I\'m not broken up about it, though. With my GPA, an application there would definitely fall into the \"shoot for the moon\" category.
Summary of Experience:
Submitted the secondary, but I didn\'t have the standard combination of science and non-science professor lettors. I had been told this could be waived if I substituted employer letters, but the status indicated on the electronic app kept saying I was incomplete, so I don\'t think my app was ever reviewed.
Summary of Experience:
Didn\'t even get an interview. Ouch! It\'s ok though, I had already figured by late January, when I still hadn\'t been invited for an interview, that I was not in the running. But I don\'t see why they needed another month before they sent me the courtesy e-mail.
Summary of Experience:
Applied here because I live one mile away from the campus, but I am technically out of state (the Navy has me stationed here). The vibe I got from the interview was that of your typical med school -- which is good, really. But I never did like it here in Virginia, and now that I have an acceptance to FIU, I will withdraw from EVMS.
Summary of Experience:
Applied here because I would love to live in Miami. When I went in for the interview, I found myself really liking the warm, close-knit vibe. The dean himself came and talked to us -- the \"dean of deans,\" that is, not just the dean of admissions (who also did talk to us). Maybe this is all just because they are small and are just now admitting their third class of students, but the place shot right up to first or second on my list. I would be uberhappy to attend here. On a side note, I was waitlisted for a day, even though I am in-state, but I figure that is my fault for submitting such a late app.
Summary of Experience:
Applied here because I grew up in Colorado and my family is there (but I am technically an OOS applicant). When I went for the interview, I was really impressed. I thought the school itself was overwhelming awesome (according to my tastes), and it would be nice to have family in town, but I\'m not a fan of the cold weather.
