Summary of Application Experience
AMCAS submitted 7/23/04, processed 8/11/04. I am retaking the MCAT 8/14/04 to hopefully bring up the 7 in PS, although this will likely delay interviews until at least mid-October. I have already received a few secondaries and will start submitting them after the MCAT, and I will keep this profile updated as the process continues.
9/12/04: I am slowly completing secondaries- my goal is to have them all done by the end of the month, so when my Aug scores arrive everything else is complete and I can (hopefully) start interviewing.
10/8/04: Still have a handful of secondaries left to do--mainly, it is hard to find $$ to pay for all of them! MCAT scores come out next week, so hopefully it will be good news...
10/17/04: Aug MCAT results are in--I went from a 29 to a 32, with an 8 in PS! I'm relieved since it improved. Now, I get to play the waiting game for interviews to come in.
11/19/04: Still waiting for interviews...hopefully one will come soon. I knew taking the Aug MCAT would slow things down, but it's hard being in limbo for so long.
12/6/04: Yay, my first interview (Mount Sinai)! What a relief. I'm hoping for at least 1 or 2 more by the end of the year.
1/5/05: Had my OHSU interview today--it was originally scheduled for Feb, but I was able to come in earlier because they had a cancellation. I think it went well, I'd really like to go there so we'll see what happens!
1/24/05: No good news since mid Dec, and 2 rejections this month...I'm really hoping for more invites in the next couple of weeks!
2/9/05: The rejections have begun really rolling in (3 so far this month), but at least I got an invite on 2/7/05 to interview at GW. I had kind of given up hope on getting more invites, so it was nice. I should hear back from OHSU any day now, I'm really hoping for good news!
2/15/05: I got my first acceptance today, from OHSU! I'm really excited because as an OR resident this is probably my first choice. In fact, I'm probably not going to go on any more interviews, I'll just see what happens with Mt Sinai and what kind of aid they offer me if I get in there as well. But most likely, I'm going to OHSU in the Fall! Woohoo!
Conclusion: I got waitlisted at Mt. Sinai, didn't go to my GW interview after I got my OHSU acceptance (I was running low on $$ and knew I would rather go to OHSU). Mt Sinai eventually rejected me from the waitlist, but I found out about 2 weeks before that happened that I am receiving a full tuition scholarship at OHSU for all 4 years, so I already knew I wasn't going to give that up. Good luck to all of you applying right now!
